I moved here a few months ago and only recently heard that the Butte country sheriff CCW applications are treated as "shall-issue."

I was wondering if anyone around here has actually went through the process.

Looking at the sheriffs application here
http://www.buttecounty.net/sheriffs/pdfs/CCW.pdf

It looks pretty easy.

What I am wondering is, what would be good cause?

The only argument I can think of right now is basically:

When an assailant shows intent to inflict bodily harm, I have no effective way to defend my life from said harm, even if authorities have been notified. The limited time before said attack might not yield enough to call authorities. If authorities however are notified, response time after presumed call would not be fast enough to prevent imminent life threatening attack from an assailant intending to inflict bodily harm. Since it is impossible to identify, predict, guess when or if a person intends to cause bodily harm at any given time, I must argue it would be in good cause for my CCW permit issuance.

(Hell when to Serve and Protect is just a motto, and police CANT be sued for NOT Serving and Protecting; right there is enough for good cause for me, heh.)

[p.s. I do not have a job, and am not currently taking any classes]

FWIW, my brother-in-law has a CCW. He lives in Chico, which I believe is Butte County.

He's not in the law enforcement/military field.

I just moved from there.

What I said was "job requires me to carry large amounts of cash" but overall Butte is as near to "shall issue" as you can get in Ca.

The thing is, if I ever do have a situation where I need to defend myself from a life threatening attack, if I shoot that person.....

.... since I don't really carry a large amount of cash, and therefore there would be no proof or record that I ever did carry a large amount of money... Could the person that I defend myself against turn around and sue me for lieing on the CCW application....

I don't want to lie if I dont have to.

(Yes Chico is in Butte)

I got mine by being dead honest. My wife and I carry huge amounts of ammo and guns around on a regular basis when we go to Three Gun matches. I just stated my fear that someone would take all my weapons from me while I was abiding by the law during the transport of my weapons and ammo. Permit issued in ~10 days, no problemo. :neener:

I don't live in Butte. But, from what I have heard where I am self defense is not a good reason in and of itself. My guess would be you would be better off to think of what activities you do that might put you at risk. e.g. meeting unkown people in unknown locations, stargazing in the desert, carrying cash, gems,or firearms, being on 24 hour emergency call to respond to who knows where, Real Estate Agent etc....

Good luck.

Real Estate Works well also

My wife got hers since she is a real estate agent before I got mine on the transport large quantities thing . . .

How about defending someone who is disabeld and otherwise couldnt defend themselfs?

I think its bull****, if someone is about to shoot me, I am supposed to just stand there, and get shot. I am sure I would try to run, but if you run you might get shot anyway, also you could say there is more potential for danger since if I am running away, and someone wants to kill me, there will be stray bullets flying around.

Anyone ever live in butte county? Its filled with a bunch of red-neck tweekers unless your inside chico, then its the blue collar tweekers running the town. I also swear there is something wrong with the water, I have never seen soo many people with soo many obvious birth defects anywhere else in my life. (I know its an overgeneralization)

Also we take the risk every single day anyone walks outside of there home.

Hmm... I wonder if the excuse of nature watching in the early dawn, and evening hours in Upper Bidwell would work? (bidwell park [3,670 acres])

I lived in Chico for 10 years, I got used to the people. You will too.

For real scary try the the casinos in Oroville or the discount grocery.

I DID carry a lot of cash so my reason was valid initially and when I renewed. I retired but never changed my reason.

Anyway it does not show up on the card itself just the application.

In California IIRC, someone engaged in criminal behavior cannot sue if he gets hurt in the normal course of events. Though he could if you abuse him after capturing him or if he was running away.

Your CCW instructor will help you formulate a good reason, I never heard of anyone who qualified for the CCW not being granted it due to a non-suitable reason.

Well I am moving back to the Central Coast to San Luis Obispo county in the next couple of months, so I dont think I will be getting "used" to the locals. :neener:

I have been to most of the Casinos around here, I am actually up $400 from the black jack tables..(Ive put down at least a couple of grand, hehe)

I had a friend that used to live on 1st st. (Chico), talk about a shadey neighborhood.

(Im wondering if someone could make the argument that: [if were to fib on the application] Since the approval of the applicant was based on a lie to the authorities, the application should be void, and must be treated as such.
(So I basically would be treaded as a criminal as well)

I will probably go into the rod & gun club and see what they have to say about my situation.

Im not going to pay 50$ for "training" then another $150 for the application to get denied!

You could also talk to Dobby at Safer Arms and get a second opinion.

1st St? Not all that shady. Now parts of 1st AVE and bits of 2nd 3rd and 4th avs are pretty bad at times.

I delivered food all over Chico for a number of years and never had a single problem.

If you have to shoot, and it is adjudicated in your favor I doubt it will matter what is on your application.
