So it seems that i have acquired over time more competition orientated pistols rather than tactical carry handguns. I have 1 permit left and $650 or so.

I have already
1.Glock 34 with ported barrel in 9mm
2. ruger revolver .357
3. SA 1911 in 45 acp

Unarguably the 45 acp is my favorite round to shoot, probably because i grew to prefer all metal guns and laid my glock into my fathers hands who loves it.

Im a big guy so i can handle carrying a 5'' barrel for ccw. Even though i only CCW 1-2 times a year when we go to PA or FL. But just north of our area here in NJ the murder rate has rised 52% and at the moment there are 2 different murder's on the loose who have been spotted in my neighborhood. So its a weird situation.

i considered a few options
1. a small .380 like a bersa thunder for a pocket gun (but most likely dont want another caliber to reload)
2. CZ75B SA to replace my Glock for minor Comp and carry
3. Save my money for another few weeks and get a SIG P220R ELITE CARRY in 45.

But in reality i want something in 45acp that has a higher capacity than my 1911 but cannot exceed my nj 15rd limit.

What do you guys think>?

If you're looking to stick with 45, then why not take a look at a CZ97? .45 ACP goodness with a 10 round mag.

It's too big for my medium hands, but it seems to fit your criteria.

I forget to add i hate DAO guns. I'd prefer DA/SA and love my 1911 SA. but like i said i want more mag cap.

If you are open to some of the polymer framed pistols, the XD45 comes in a 5" barrel and the original model held 13 rounds of .45ACP, the newer models should hold the same.

I would definately recommend a gun that you can carry. I vote the SIG P220, I plan to get one when I turn 21.

+1 for the Sig P220, its a great gun, all metal though the capacity isnt quite what you hoped for, but only thing thats all metal with a high capacity would be a 2011 of some sort. Might also want to look at something like the Para Warthog, has controls like a 1911 but has a polymer frame and should run about $700, holds 10 rounds of 45 ACP.

A paraordinance with a 13 round mag. You will have a double stacked all steel gun. I don't know if you will carry it but it fits all other requirements.

If you like the 1911, and love the 45 ACP, have you looked into a Para warthog? 10 rounds of 45, 3 inch barrel, weighs 24 oz (stainless is 31 oz). Downside would be the price, $1000 MSRP. Magazines run about $35 a piece

Dude. Seriously. Check out the CZ97. It's really everything your looking for.

Looking at it now, its very nice,

To my knowledge,,,Maybe im wrong----but its Double action with a 10 lb trigger pull exclusively. Thats whats pushing me towards the sig because its a DA/SA---so ill have a 10 lb trigger pull first then a 4 lb for all my follow up shots. in my mind a DA/SA is a perfect carry gun

SIG Sauer is actually soon coming out with a high capacity 1911 in 9mm, .40 S&W and 45 ACP, that may fit what you want better. Haven't heard much about this gun though like when its actually coming out.

I'm pretty certain that it's available in DA/SA.

It's similar to my CZ75B and SP01 Phantom in that respect. The only reason I don't own a 97 is because of it's size.

I'll say that the DA in my CZ's is a bit long and hard, but not terrible. The Phantom is somewhat new and the DA is still uneven and gritty. The 75B is broken in and the DA is as good as anything out there IMHO. I also have a couple of CZ82's and the DA's are freakin' fantastic in those little gems.

You may be able to find a spring kit from Wolff or CZ Custom that lightens up the DA. I'm not really certain however.

CZ97 is DA/SA. There are things you can do to reduce the DA, including just breaking the gun in. .45acp is pricy, but dry firing (may want to use a snap cap) can help with that. If you get one, I would order from czcustom and ask them about which lighter springs you could use with it. A lighter main spring goes a long way towards that DA pull.

CZ97 is DA/SA.

It says on the website SA/DA As if it has a 4 lb pull first then the rest are 10 lb pulls ???

Is there a difference between DA/SA & SA/DA? If not then ill go with the cz97

If you're gonna get this for carry, I think you'll find that G34 easier to carry than a double stack .45. Seriously.

I carry a G27 or G29, depending, and I have a G20. I can say definitively that width is much, much more important regarding conceal carry than any other dimension. Weight is probably the second consideration. Though not that different, those ounces are very noticeable hanging from the hip. Length? I can conceal the G20 just as easy as the G29 provided I use a holster that carries the pistol low so only the grip is above the belt. In fact, the 1911 model may be one of the better conceal carry pistols just because of the width combined with the calibre...

I can tote the G27 or G29 with about 10rds. in it and a 15rd. backup mag. That may be something to consider too, getting a smaller carry gun that can handle full size mags for the 15rd. max.

Another pistol to check out would be the FNP in .45. It holds 14 or 15 rounds, has a hammer, etc., but it has a polymer frame. I haven't handled one, but they look nice and I've heard only good about them.

The Sig looks nice, my wife was considering one alongside a Smith 10mm before she settled on my old G17 (she wanted to save the money to buy an Amphibian --she wants an integrally suppressed .22 Ruger more than I do! Yeah, I got a great wife!). Anyway, that Sig looks real nice, and if I were to pick one from your list that one would be it. But not in that ridiculous stair tread pattern. I like the carry model.

Come to think of it, there's a whole array of pistols not mentioned! The third gen. Smith and Wessons! They have one of the best DA/SA triggers I think (and a little tuning makes them wonderful) infinitely better than the Beretta. The cool thing here is that they usually go for a good price used, you can find ones with little use, and they are tanks so even if they are used they are usually in great shape. The 10mm comes in six flavors, although only a few are common. They come in DAO, DA/SA, Sig style decocker DA, and in two lengths, 4.25 and (I think) 5 inches. They hold like 8 rounds or so in a single stack... Easier to hide that way though. 10mm is a nice round, especially if you reload (in fact, the 10mm is THE reloaders round for auto pistols --and you get 9mm velocity in .45 bullet weight). Then they make the same pistol in .45 but I don't know the specs. and models off the top of my head. The .45's can probably be had for a decent price, the 10mm's would cost a little more, I think, due to the rarity of them and the fact that 10mm is making a resurgence and every 10mm afficianado has to have one eventually.

The 3rd gen. Smith pistols were ahead of their time I think, and seriously underrated. They didn't do too well when they came out, so many cop shops were switching to Glocks at the time. Then Smith got sued, bought out, etc., and I bet they dropped the 3rd gen. pistols in order to save money. The manufacturing process for those had to be tedious, and they came in about as many flavors as their revolvers do, all calibres considered.

I used to have a very compact 9mm 3rd gen. pistol, can't recall the model number. Held 12-13 rounds in the mag, was blued (so a 5-something) and had a slide mounted decocker. I got it for $200 in '01, sold it in '03 or '04 to a fellow soldier. I wish I hadn't, I wish I'd kept it, because I haven't come by a pistol as nice as that one for the price.

Thats alot to think about stryker. I never considered the 10mm , nor another Glock. I always said i would just save up and buy a custom 1911 but the more i think about it, I love my Springfield loaded. Theres not much i would change that hasnt been done already.

I wore my 5'' .357 today and it was heavy and sloppy to carry around. I wear an XL Glove but would say the best fit for my hand is the Gen 4 G19 if that helps give you an idea.

Thanks again guys. If all goes right, this is going down next Tuesday

I say the CZ97B if you want an awesome gun chambered in .45acp. I just got mine and it only took about 50 rounds down range to know it was the sweetest shooting handgun I've ever fired period. And I've fired about 50 different kinds of handguns in various calibers. It kicks maybe a little harder than a full size 9mm and is even more accurate. I've never shot any handgun as accurate as this CZ 97B. It is now my favorite gun that I own, and I don't know if there's a better gun out there chambered in .45acp unless you spend over $1000. Take everyone's advice in here recommending the CZ, it really is everything it's cracked up to be. I've owned two Sigs (a 226 and 2022) and my CZ97 has a better DA/SA trigger than both of them. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/82/products_id/31189
