I want to reload some 40gr Vmax rounds for my AR15s. They are short barreled rifles and I want to experiment with this bullet. I have been reloading a few years but have only recently started trying to reload 223.

I would appreciate anyones tips or hints to make this more successful.

They are fast twist 1-7, which I have been told will explode these bullets in flight, but I have some short barreled ones I want these for. I know the "experts" say that you should use a 77gr with an SBR, but I guess I want to see for myself.

I received a box of Winchester 45 gr bullets, the bullets used in rimfire magnum, in a trade.

A little research and decided to play.

5 gr of Unique makes a .22 centerfire that falls about midway between. 22 WMRF and .22 Hornet.

Will not cycle an AR, but in a bolt action, scope set 1" high @ 100 yards with 64 gr bullets, is dead on at 50 yards with the 45 gr.
It is quieter than a Walther air rifle and squirrels have the day ruined.
It is a 1:9 barrel. Haven't loaded them any faster.

Start with your rate of twist for your bore. 40's might not stabilize for your rate of twist.

I think a bullet length chart would be more precise, and I don't actually believe in overstabilization. Now bullets have and will come apart in a twist greater than 1:7, tons of people with 1:6.5 having jacket separations, but I never saw a final analysis if it was a rifing style issue or twist rates.
