Im looking to bed the reciever's of my mosins. Don't tell me that it's a waste of time and it will still be a 3 or more MOA rifle. I know. Im wondering what product i can get at home depot/lowe's that i can bed with that will help shrink the groups up a little. Ive seen certain products online but i don't want to go through shipping and all that. Thanks for any help.

I think you will be happier with Acraglas gel kit sold at many gunshops. Get the kit with the parting compound and all that. It might be a pain to order online, but if you haven't a good gun store in your neighborhood, this might be a better route.

Krochus - What do you use for a release agent?

A heavy application of rem gun oil works and so does a thin piece of plastic such as a ziploc bag. With this stuff it only takes a couple minutes.

Doesn't Quicksteel have only a 5-minute set time? May be too fast for bedding purposes.

why would this be a problem? I'm sure that in 1957 acraglass was the thing to use. But it's now 2008 and we have much better and easier to use products

Looking to bed your Mosin?

Start with a candlelight dinner, romantic music...

heh, funny.

Anyway, can i get this quicksteel stuff at my home depot? I'll probably just use a WD-40 as a release agent if thats okay. Also how much does it cost for that little tube? And will it be enough for two mosins?

Got a boating store in your area? If you don't know, a boat is a hole in the water into which you pour money.

Because boats are always falling apart, Marine Stores have the best epoxies around. If you go to Camp Perry, the Walmart in Port Clinton has an excellent selection of marine epoxies.

I have picked up these 14 ounce boxes of Marine Tex for about $20.00. They contain a can of hardner and resin. This stuff has a smooth peanut butter consistancy when mixing, so it stays in place on the sidewalls of a stock.

I use a scale and figured out that the weight ratio was 1 part catalyzt to 7.75 parts resin. That way I can use my digital scale to mix up some in a paper dixie cup, and save the rest for later.

I use as a cheap release agent, Johnson paste wax. Just rub the stuff on, and in hard to reach places, melt some and use a cheap flat brush to paint on.

I use Johnson paste wax all over the stock. I always get glue on the fingers and then it gets fingerprinted on the stock. Much easier to remove if the stock is waxed.

I bedded a couple of Finnish Nagants. Changed point of impact, did nothing on group size.
