I want to buy either an AK 47 or a Mac-11.

I know there are several brands of each.
I am buying more for having it than for accuracy and reliability.

Does anyone know anything about these guns, such as which brand is best.

For the AK I was thinking Romanian, because they are under $400. For the Mac-11 I have no idea, so I was hoping someone knew something about the brands that they come in and which one is best.

Thanks.

What are you going to use it for?
Most AK's seem to be reliable.
I find semi-auto MACs about as useful as basketball cleats but maybe that's just me.

i actually have a cobray mac-11 in .380 auto i have been considering selling.

reason being it just sits there, ive never tried it and i dont think its for me.

Get the Mac-11.

You did state that accuracy and reliability were not important as just having it.

It's also easier to pose the Mac-11 sideways.

If you are not worried about accuracy or reliability, why not get BOTH... just buy the plastic colored replicas?

as for which to get, I GUESS, given your criteria, you might just buy whichever one you find first... or ask Boredelmo who posted above, what he wants for the one he has and doesn't want...

Go with the Mac

It has so many uses; hunting, fishing, target shooting, concealed carry. You could never conceal an AK.

I saw this movie once about these two drug dealers that were trafficing drugs through Mexico. They took on half the Mexican Army (who were armed with that POS FAL) and prevailed. MACs rock!

Boredelmo, Do you have any pictures of yours and some more info about it perhaps?

I was hoping for a 9mm but if the price is right I might settle for the .380.

New used, etc?

Get the ak. One of the only weapons that can be built cheaply and work just as good as a hyperdeluxe overpriced one. Not the same for the mac.

A semi Mac does NOT shoot from the open bolt (the first ones did, but someone figured out 2 minutes with pliers would make them Full Auto.)

I think an AK is a practical thing to have. But for fun, why not a Mac. I'd like to get one at some point, but hard to stop buying AK variants. (Still looking for that North Korean variant to round out the collection. :) )

Not true... why I saw Lonewolf Mcquade, er, I mean Chuck Norris, take out a dozen banditos with one MAC without even having to reload, from distances of up to 100 yards away.

Plus, you can get your MAC with custom airbrushing to match your favorite hi-tops, sideways new era cap, and throwback jersey.

All kidding aside, MACS are fun to shoot, but in my experience, about as reliable as a Chevy Cavalier.

And an AK, while not the most aesthetically pleasing firearm ever produced, does have a certain amount of intrinsic beauty... not to mention reliability, and a respectable caliber.

For what it's worth, I love my AK WASR 10. Got it at a show, brand new in the box, with all the accoutrements for $330. I scoped it with a relatively nice Bushnell, and have passed well over 2000 rounds of Wolf through it with just a single clean and lube so far. A word of caution, if you choose the AK - stick with metal mags. I've had nothing but trouble with the poly mags. Good luck.
