first let me start by saying hello. im new to the rifle game and im looking to but my first AK at a local gun show this weekend. I dont really know anything about AK's other than what i read on the web. i know there alot of different AK's but what are the differences? i want one where i can cange it to a pistol grip. thank you in advance!

The quality AKs are there but you have to look for them. One way to do that is to check the importer who must be listed on the weapon. The two I would list as "favorites" are those imported by Arsenal USA (Made in Bulgaria by Arsenal) and those imported by Russian American Arsenal (RAA) and made by Ismash (sic) in Russia known as "Saiga" rifles available in 7.62X39, .223 and 7.62X51 (308). I have an Arsenal in 5.45X39, a Saiga .308 and a Saiga .223 and am very happy with all three of them. All are converted or convertable to pistol grip etc. but watch out for the 922 compliance thing.

get a wasr 10 get to know if then move on up when ready
the search feature should help

Couple hundred bucks for the as-imported, sporterized versions (no pistol grip and proprietary magazines). Not sure what one converted back to AK-kind of specs runs.

GET THE SAIGA OR A YUGO!!

I've been interested in a saiga for a while but my gun budget is failing me!!!!! I plan on getting one in a couple months. For more info on the saiga go to http://forum.saiga-12.com. The people on that fourm will anwser all your questions. For the best prices go to stanley pro shop. AZhunter.

there are lots of good websites out there that you should check out just google it, plus the search function is a great help. here is a link to a website that will tell you everything there is to know about romanian ak's
http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/model.htm

i am not a big fan of the wasr's but alot of people are and they are happy with them. i have incountered more that were not good than good. i spent a little more.... no actually a got a great deal on a chinesse mak-90 for less than the cost of a romanian wasr. i really like the mak and it is pretty good out to 200yds. it eats anything and is a joy to shoot, easy to maintain and take care of but this is the case with most ak varients.

i say go with a romanian sar if you are gonna go romanian. or mak-90 if you want to step up a notch. but my favorite and the best that i have fired, is a yugo underfolder. it is realy fun to shoot, hardly any recoil so cqb drills and medium range hits in rapid fire mode comes very easy. follow up are extrodinary.

My favorite AK version, by far, is the Robinson Arms VEPR. The fit and finish is excellent and the action is very smooth. It is built on the RPK receiver, which is thicker than a standard AK receiver, and increases the accuracy of the rifle.

I have three Saigas in .223/5.56. Great guns. I am selling the one above though. I usually shoot with a scope so my two longer barreled Saigas will be kept.

As with any firearm purchase it is my opinion that you should consider what it is you expect the weapon to be used for. As for myself I recently purchased my first and likely last AK-47. Being that price was not a factor and I didn't want to ever have to replace my AK I did alot of research. I finally decided like many that either I wanted a Saiga or an Arsenal. Both are top quality rifles, but the Arsenal won. I just yesterday picked up my SAM 7-sf at a local shop. It is everything I was looking for thus far. I plan to do a range report on it next week if possible and can only hope it shoots as good as it looks and feels.

well thanks for everyones help i decided to get a yugo m70 underfold. i really like the look of this gun! i hope it shoots as well as it looks. im looking to change the pistol grip to something to better fit my big hands but other than that im really happy with my purchase. i got it for 475 out the door at a local gun show. i heard good things about these guns as far as quality and accuracy. i would like to hear some of your input on this gun, its make, and its accuracy.
