Hello. I just came across a good piece of news. Looks like my mom decided to buy me a few rifles (nothing to extravagant, mind you) and I got to thinking: I have an M44 which I absolutely adore, so why not expand the Mosin collection? My dad has a C&R license, and I still have about a case of Czech left. So, here's the deal.

I could get a "sniper" mosin and a case of ammo from Classicarms. Those have always interested me.

Or,

I could grab an 91/30 and a Finnish rifle with some ammo. Or any combination of mosins really, under 400ish dollars. Bad thing is, though, I I don't know a good source for Finns. I know I can get the 91/30s in just about any surplus store or online, but I have no idea where the finns are.

Anyone have any ideas?

And yes, my mother kicks ass. Don't gotta tell me. :neener:

You can't go wrong with any Finnish reworked Mosin Nagant they were rebuilt and tested and had to meet a certain standard before being issued or accepted by the Finnish Army.
If you can, find one of the SA stamped 91/30s since allot of them were captured or picked up after being left or only dropped in the snow.:neener:
Tikka rebarreled and reconditioned them often replacing much of the rifle including the wood.
For a Finn get a M-39 while you can Sako and Valmet reworked these and they are among some of the best of the Mosin's ever issued, many until recently were held as reserve or used for training.
They are getting harder to come by most of them are in the USA already so prices will only be going up get one of each while you can.:D

Best of luck.;)

Hmm let see.

It is akin to talking a crappy Ford Escort and swapping out the engine, suspension, drive train and tires and making a kick-butt car out of it.

My Sako-barrelled Finn gets shot...my 3 Mosins do not really. It has a superior barrel, stock, sights and trigger.

What's to "sell" about that?

Empire Arms has some real nice M39s. You'll probably get a case of sticker shock though. Those rifles have really increased in value as of late. Get an M39 while there are some still available at semi-reasonable prices, they're a Hell of a good shooting rifle.

http://www.gunsnammo.com/

I've purchased from this dealer before and he grades them really well...

i've also made private purchases with my C&R off here...

http://forums.gunboards.com/

not only do they have a buy/trade/sell area similar to here, they have forums for just about every Mil-surp out there, so you can decipher marks, find out history..etc...hell of a info area on the different M/Ns

i've bought 2 M39s and 4 captured Russian SA marked 91/30s for very reasonable prices compared to Gunbroker...

just IMHO...

good hunting,

Empire Arms has great rifles but I would say they are more geared towards the collector.

WGA (www.gunsnammo.com) has a variety of conditions from "collector" grade to shooters. I've purchased many rifles from both and have been very happy with each one. Read the descriptions carefully however...to make sure you know what you're getting.

For the Finn M39:
have your Dad contact SOG (was about $279)

Then, with the money left over get a laminated hex reciever, Tula mfg, rearsenaled 91/30 from Classic Arms. (about $110)

You won't regret either purchase

something from Mom, something fom Dad. :D

www.gunsnammo.com posted by ken b is a good place to deal with. I got my B barrel 39 from them. They have an unissued B barrel listed now for $360. If you can swing it, that'd be a really sweet gun to have.

There's also the history to consider. If you buy a Finn, you know it was used by "the good guys." :)
But they were allied with the germans during WW2! :neener:

Course, it was dependency for economical reasons, and supposedly outside and far away from political inflluences

if we have to "sell you" a Finn Mosin, then you don't love your mosin collection enough :neener:

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. The Finns reached out to the west as the Soviets rolled in and the best the west could do was expel the USSR from the impotent League of Nations. The Finns understandably took what help they could get (which is why they bought the Brewsters from the US Navy). Once the USSR became our ally, under the same reasons as the Finns took Germany as an ally (the Soviet government was, after all, quite evil). Finland was left more or less out in the cold by the west. That they survived as an intact nation says much about them.

If you have the chance to get a Finnish Mosin....JUMP ON IT!! "The rifles of the White Death" is a great read on the subj of the Russo-Finnish war of 1939-40. I think they are the best of the Mosin rifles......

I'm in the process of talking to Ash about his two rifles...

But in any case, I'm definantly getting a Finn. Thanks for the insight guys.
