... the scope didn't hold zero very well, primarily due to slop in the double stick tape and screws holding the rail to the wood block. I elected to remove the double stick tape, ....

I had to laugh about the double sided sticky tape.
Laughing WITH you, not at you.

There are so many old Mosin Nagant rifles, we have to figure out something to do with them.

I like your spirit of adventure.

That poor rifle....

I am a master typist, my Kindle fire goes out of its way to make me look bad.

I'm not easily shocked, but that one got me. I don't know what was more stunning, the original design or the improvement with the metal strap.

When I was 14, I made a firecracker gun, that worked, but made the OP scope mount look good.

My 6 year old brother was so impressed with my firecracker gun, that when he was 15, he made a gun that was GOOD for a 15 year old. He made it all from non gun parts, so it is a smooth bore muzzle loader. He had never heard of a leaf spring, so it has drum brake coil springs in it.

If you want to do some things, you JUST have to be willing to pay for it or have the ability (machine/knowledge wise) to do it yourself. Wood will flex with heat/moisture and there's no way to keep that zero.

This is a tried and true mount. Trust me, I'm the king of jury rigging things, but there's some things it's just not worth it to try unless done correctly.

:what: Just when you think you've seen it all? I know there has to be a fish hook involed in that mess somewhere.

Here is a Mosin Nagant mount I made.
I cut both sets if Picatinny rails in place on the receiver, so they are in line.
That took enough time at my rate to buy the Brooklyn Bridge.

I like the OP's low-cost Mosin Nagant.
It grabs the eye and keeps it.
How did he do it?
How could he make it better?

If you knew how bad an amateur gunsmith I am, and how over paid I am as a lazy hand waving engineer, you would vomit at the thought of doing biz with me.

But people who come over to my shop get put to work fixing their own guns.
