I want to work up a load for my .454 Casull (9.5" SRH) for whitetail hunting.
Goal: 1300-1400 fps
Primers: WSR
Powders: Universal, 2400
Bullet: Cast 255 gr. Keith-style
Where do I start?
I'm thinking of starting with some .45 Colt 30K data, and from what I've read, about 16-20 grains of 2400 or similar amounts of Universal will do the trick, but I don't see in my reloading manuals where they use 2400 with lead bullets... most of them tend toward Unique, but I don't have any Unique and, though Universal is close, I've heard that the pressure curve for Universal is not suited for the .45 Colt Ruger data or the 30K psi data.
The data I can find is posted online, but as far as I can tell is not "book" data.
I also want a 1050-1200 fps load with the same bullet for my .45 Colt 4" Redhawk.
