I suppose this is best posted here rather than the Gunsmithing forum as I suspect most of those who might have experience on this topic likely frequent here as well.

I do like my Twinpines RIA 1911 from what little I've shot it (circa 300 rounds), but I don't care much for the GI sights. Heck, I doubt anyone does.

So here's a relatively easy question: What should I look for specifically when purchasing aftermarket Novak-style replacement front and rear sights for this particular 1911? I know the front sight isn't dovetailed in like my Kimber is, but what is that called, staked in front sight?
Also, what tools might I need to swap out sights on this pistol?

I searched for info on such a swap, but couldn't find what I was looking for. Perhaps my Columbo skills of investigation have completely shriveled up and died.

Thanks in advance.

I think Kings's is your best bet from what I've heard. I put a J-Point "Optima 2000" red dot sight on mine, using the standard GI dovetail mount. I believe the front sight on the RIA is narrow tennon. You need a special tool or a well equiped shop to change the front sight since its staked on.

I keep telling people if they don't like the "GI" features and plan to buy an RIA and then change anything, they should look at the Armscor "Enhanced 45" instead. For ~$50 more you get all the "deluxe" creature comforts included such as Novak fixed sights, beavertail grip safety, skeletonized hammer, & ambi safety. Its too bad these are harder to find than are the RIA.
