Does the stock have the full 'cresent' buttplate? I love victorian rifles, but those buttplates were designed for people usually alot smaller- skinnier, and thickly dressed all year long than nowdays. It can't be just set against your collar bone, it has to be carefully nuzzled into your armpit... not the best deal for a running bunny pop shot huh? You want zero recoil get a 1894 in 32 special, make some black powder handloads... you can watch the bullet slowly go downrange- if it weren't for white smoke, you wouldn't notice the gun went off. A good habit to wear earplugs no mater what you shoot. Keep the 30-30 if at all possible. Keep it clean, the barrel is not modern steel, clean it right after shooting- every time. It will last another 117 years....

Yes, its got the full crescent buttplate. I didnt notice anything unusual about the way it fit to me, but I wasnt really thinking about it either.

I tried to clean the barrel out really good after shooting, and stuff just kept coming out. I bought some foaming bore cleaner, so I am going to put that in here in the next few days when I get a chance and hopefully I can get all the gunk out. I also bought a one piece rod so I can quit worrying about hurting the muzzle when I clean it, lever actions seem tricky. At this point, I think I would have a hard time selling it...:)

I use plugs and muffs for any centrefire rifle. I learned that muzzle blast can make me twitchier than recoil in some cases. Getting a good shoulder pad helps too.
