Lubricant and Gun rust protectant

Not a big fan of Breakfree CLP- cleans, lubricates, protects- but none of them too well. Its ok for EBRs where everything is anodized, chrome lined, or parkerized, but I won't use this stuff on blued guns anymore- I had one rust after applying CLP.

I use Hoppes Elite or Outers Bore fam for cleaning, Militech-1 for lube, and either B-C Sheath or RIG for protectant.

To date, my commercial recommendations generally center around the use of Eezox, FP-10 and/or CorrosionX.

One thing you should be aware of about CorrosionX though... there are (3) versions (and I love 'em all)!

A) Standard Marine (red can/bottle)
B) Aircraft
C) HD (Heavy Duty)

The Aircraft edition is a little heavier than the Marine and designed specifically to be compatible with aluminum commonly used in aircraft applications. I've also sprayed this stuff inside my own auto's trunk lid as a moisture barrier/corrosion blocker (I have a water leak that has caused some previous rusting) and it makes a great general lube for whatever ails your mechanicals.

The HD is very useful in particularly challenging environments and is the most robust of the (3) formulations. Interestingly, I've never heard reference being made to anything other than the (presumed) light/Marine version so please be aware that you may be better suited by one of the other types for your particular application or needs.

That said, I've still been quite pleased with what I usually find myself using... FP-10 on a Eezox treated arm, or CorrosionX used over wide areas and perhaps something else used experimentally on high-friction spots (usually after a PowderBlast or Simple Green/H2O bath).

While CorrosionX is decent as a CLP, I am most interested to soon discover how George Fennel (formerly of MPC) has upped the ante over FP-10 and other CLP juices with his new Weapons Shield product. I think that one bears watching as polarized boundary layer technology creeps into our avocation as a weapons specific formulation.

There really isn't any excuse for corrosion on firearms any longer with any one of these sophisticated products or a few of the old standbys on your bench. Cost can be measured in many ways, but I much prefer to pay the piper now, rather than later...

Or if you're of the ornery variety, you can also check out Mad Ogre's CLP recipe then growl on the firing line! :scrutiny:

Lubricant and Gun rust protectant....

Here's my 2 cents worth....
For general day to day rust prevention / Birthwood Casey Sheath
For tougher heavy duty rust prevention / Corrosion-X
For firearms lubrication..... / FP-10

I'm not a fan of the one does all type of products but if forced to choose one I suppose I would go with the FP-10...

Good luck and God Bless / Rick

RIG [Rust Inhibiting Grease] has worked since 1935.
Very light film on exterior.

Johnson's Paste Wax has been used since before RIG.
It is most known for wood floors, but has protected metal - forever.

Hot, Humid South. Folks on Farms, Ranches and it gets dusty. Folks sweat!
I mean some alternate holsters so they can dry out between days.

Johnson's is used most often since most folks I know carry wood guns, and most are blue. Bluing is a form of "controlled rust" and contrary to what folks believe stainless will rust. Just "Stain" + "Less".

We use OLDer guns with better metallurgy than these new fangled guns that seem to rust easier, especially some of the over priced Stainless ones.
Even the Plastic Guns, inside the plastic, where the metal is, gets salty sweat and messes up guns.

When Duck Season hits, freezing rain, sleet, ice, snow, mud, - guns are still protected, don't rust, and water beads off Blue metal and wood stocks with the Johnson's Paste Wax.

This ain't Rocket Science, though some charge too much money for products touted being better due to Rocket Science.

I think we paid $4 for a can of Johnson's too many years ago, and who knows how many guns have been protected through every kind of exposure all these years.

Ninety-five percent of all fishing lures are made to catch fisher person's wallets - not fish. - anon

Wish I'd have known about Eezox before I bought that Sig, stupid thing :fire: Only piece I've ever owned that rusted while in my posession. Guess I shouldn't have used the little bottle of oil they included with the purchase.

All my other guns (Glock, XD, S.A., KelTec) are cleaned and lubed mostly with CLP but I do finish the exteriors with Birchwood-Casey's Sheath and wipe off the excess with a silicon impregnated cloth, ymmv.
