I feel very lucky to have found this very nice, Ruger speed six .357 revolver! I hope that you will have some good opinions of it, after you have viewed my pictures below:

Real nice. I am looking for one myself. If you got it off Auction Arms, you probably outbid me on it!

Excellent IWB carry revolver. I'd love to have one just like that! I'd put a decent grip on it, though. I like Hogues, but they're not very concealable. Maybe if they made a Tyler T grip adaptor might work, but the stock Ruger grip, itself, its too tiny. If I could get a Pachmayr compac for it, that'd probably be the ideal grip for the purpose and help soak up some of the recoil.

That trigger, if you don't like it, is easy to tune, too. I sure had a slick security six before I traded it off. :banghead:

1)No, I didn't get my Speed Six off of the Gun Auctions-as that type of an gun aquisition is illegal here in California! This was a consignment gun that had suddenly appeared at a local gun shop(And, fortunately, I was the first in line, for this gun!). :what:

2)I do have a Pachmayr Compac rubber grip and also an older(But, NIB)nice looking Mustang Brand, wooden finger groove grips, and some Herrett's NIB wooden grips, to try on my Speed-Six.:)

3)I'm pleased with all of the nice compliments coming in here regarding this Speed Six! I had been looking for a very long time here-but, for some reason, Speed Sixes just don't show up in our gun shops very often(More like "Rarely!)!:banghead:

Beautiful gun! My girlfriend wants one just like it but they don't show up around here either. Not that I can buy one for her.... but I'd be tempted to put it on layaway.

I like the Speed-Six. We're a stocking dealer the next town over from the Newport plant. It was not uncomon to purchase NIB "Employee Guns" at a small premium over the're cost. A number of Speed-Sixes passed through our hands. Good Guns and never had a complaint. By the way, we bought a number of Redhawks when they first emerged. We refused to scalp them, although many dealers would. It's nice to be able to sleep at night..Essex

See that scratch on the cylinder, first picture?
The gun is ruined, worthless.
Please send it to me, immediately.

ID Shooting:

1)Yes, I'll post some new pictures of my Speed Six, with the two different wood grips that I have for it(Mustang and Herrett's)after I have installed them(Soon!)?:)

Serpico:

1)The only difference between an Speed-six and your Police Service Six(Also called just a Service Six)is that the Speed Six has a round butt grip frame and your Service Six has the same square butt grip frame as a Security Six! They both have the same fixed sights(But, the Security Six has the adjustable sights)! Mechanically all three of these "Six series" revolvers are identical!

2)Your Speed Six also has a heavier barrel than on the standard barrel on my Speed Six! If you look close, you can see that your barrel is heavier and with a wider sight rib and a wider ejector rod shroud! Sometime near the end of the production of the "Six series" revolvers, Ruger had quietly made the standard, 2-3/4" barrel heavier(Just as I have described)on the Security/Service/Speed sixes!)! There were some of a few Model GS33 speed Sixes(Made originally for the U.S. Postal Service-and, with some overrun guns!)that had a three-inch, heavy barrel! I also have a Speed Six like yours, with the heavier 2-3/4" barrel!

3)Take a look at the barrel ejector rod shroud on my Speed Six and notice that the front of my shroud, is almost straight up and down-where your shroud is slightly sloped towards the front! And, if you look real close and compare both of our barrels, you will see that your barrel is heavier and thicker and the sight rib on your barrel doesn't appear to rise as much above the top of your barrel as mine does(This is due to the larger diameter barrel!)! Also, look more closely where the barrels join the frame-and, you will see that at that point there is not nearly as much frame overhanging the sides of your barrel-but, mine shows much more frame overhang all the way around the barrel! If you could see both of our barrels side by side, you would immediately see how much wider that your barrel sight rib and your ejector rod shroud is than on mine?

Awesome revolver! Built like a tank and with care will give you and your kids and maybe your grandkids a lifetime of shooting.

There aren't a ton of really good aftermarket grips for these. The Eagle Secret Service grips are just about perfect, though there quality can be hit and miss. I still recommend them though.

Those just have a natural balance to them that makes them fun to shoot. I actually traded my .38 Speed Six for a .357 Security Six a while ago, but I sure liked it. If I could only have one gun, the Security Six would probably be it.

Of course, the 9mms are a joke. Gordon, do you need the address to ship yours to so I can save you the embarassment of keeping it;) ?

Thanks slick....you make me appreciate my ole SS a bit more....I've always been a Smith and Colt fan but this is a pretty nice gun....

The 9mm Speed Six is the number one gun on my want list and has been for about ten years now. Darned hard to find here in California where you can't import one.

Serpico:

1)You are welcome!

2)I have several Colt's and Smith and Wesson's too! But, most people don't realize just how good the "Six series" revolvers really are! Your Speed Six is one tough and reliable revolver! The trigger might not be as slick as the older Colt's and smith & wessons, but, these revolvers are stronger than any medium framed Colt or Smith & wesson revolver! And, as you already know, the modular construction of these Speed/Service/Security Sixes are quite unique-and makes assembly and disassembly very easy for cleaning and maintenance-as well as for no tool take down! Also, these Rugers have very few parts inside them, compared to the other traditional revolvers! Just great guns, any way you look at it! Now that these Speed Sixes are getting harder to find these days, there are a lot of people, asking themselves, why they didn't buy one of these guns whenever they were more readily available?:banghead: :cuss:

The 2.75" Speed-Six was one of the best shorty Magnums ever devised.

I sold a bus load of them back in the day. Every time I'd try to keep a blued one for myself, someone would offer me too much money for it and I'd let it get away.

Wonderful. Beautiful. I got mine with a 3-inch barrel in .38 Special, then had it rechambered for .357. That gave me the advantage of getting each chamber custom tapered so it's extraordinarily accurate. I also have a 4-inch barrel which I may someday add, but maybe not....

Again, it's a beautiful gun. Happy shooting!

confederate:

I also have a very rare Speed Six that I had found awhile back in .38 special caliber, with a factory built 4-inch barrel(A 1976 vintage "Liberty" Model)! I'm only going to collect this Speed-six though! It's rare enough that the odds of my finding another one of these, is next to impossible! I had almost forgotten about this Speed-Six-until your posting above had reminded me of it(Since it has been buried away in storage, since I had aquired it)!
