Lying to my wife about voting....

voting for an independent is throwing a vote, especially in the 2008 election...a vote for an independent is just as bad as a vote for a Democrat, both will weakin the republican vote and increase the likelyhood of Hillary getting into office.

What's funny is that I could have noted a willingness to vote independent in other forums and someone would spout the same trash about "just as bad as voting republican". It's basic math folks: 0 equals neither 1 nor -1.

If you are 20 and you don't vote Democrat, you have no heart.

If you are 40 and you don't vote republican, you have no brain!

Looks like I have neither. :D

JLStorm, I'm curious as to the reason for your post. Are you looking for validation from us for the fact that you lie to your wife?

no, I dont need validation, I just think its kind of interesting and felt like sharing. Like I said, I feel guilty that I dont feel guilty...I dont lie about anything else to her and I would never cheat on her....other than in this sense...I was more sharing that it feels wrong that it doesnt feel wrong....it feels like a necessary evil.

My great grandfather made it a family rule not to EVER talk about political parties or who you'll vote for until the election is over. Solved lotsa conflicts.

Debating ISSUES however, was a different matter.

Royh's right, vote the issues and policies. If you don't then YOU'RE the reason we have a two party system. I've voted for plenty of Independents, it's just that usually the republicans agree with the right side (me), more than the Democrats do.

When I was 20, I wasn't stupid so I didn't vote for Clinton. It had nothing to do with emotion or "heart". :)

The original quote mentioned liberal and conservative and I believe was said by a converted liberal.

And here from the partial title of the thread that was visible I thought this was going to be how you were lying about how many guns you buy or how much they cost. I was going to lambaste you for such a thing as nobody here would ever fib to their wives about that :D

Rationalization is a wonderful subterfuge. Use it wisely.

What you're really saying is, "I never lie to my wife except when I don't tell her the truth."

If more people would register as independent the two major parties would have a lot less clout. Its hard to plan a platform when you can't be sure which flavor the voters prefer.

True. My own leanings, however, are practical. I want to preserve firearms ownership by individuals in this country. From that point of view Independents only drain registered voters from one of the two major parties. The Democratic Party is essentially a coalition of special interest groups that have in common the abolition of individual firearms ownership. When gun owners register or vote as Independents they strengthen the Democratic Party and weaken their ability to own firearms.

I believe the actual quote is by francois guisot:

"Not to be a republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head."

way back in the 18th century.

And a couple more

Liberalism is trust of the people tempered by prudence; Conservatism is distrust of the people tempered by fear.
- William E. Gladstone , Speech, May 31, 1866

It only takes 20 years for a liberal to become a conservative without changing a single idea.
- Robert Anton Wilson

America has had gifted conservative statesmen and national leaders. But with few exceptions, only the liberals have gone down in history as national heroes.
- Gunnar Myrdal

That doesn't seem very The High Road.

I prefer to say, it's nobody's business. I refuse to lie.

My Grandfather was a confirmed Republican, and my Grandmother was a lifelong Democrat, who came from a strong Democrat family. He used to get upset at her when she voted Democrat, so she started voting Republican. Or, at least she SAID she voted Republican. To keep marital harmony, she voted Democrat and told him afterward she voted Republican :)

Grandpa went to his grave not knowing otherwise :)

Solid Advice

Just replace cheating with voting;

"I cheated on my wife and told her.
Dont ever do that! Ever...tell her.
Hell, if you've got a guilty conscience, drink some whiskey.
It'll rub that s**t out."
