I've been using the RCBS Tim Pro case trimmer for about a year now. It does a good job on the cases, but after doing 300 .45ACP cases the other night I started wishing for a powered trimmer. Lyman makes a trimmer that has an adapter on the shaoft to allow use of a cordless drill. Since I already have a Lyman power tool for case prep, this seems like it may be the way to go.

Here's my question though. Midway sells just the shaft and adapter for about $45 less than the entire trimmer kit. The Lyman trimmer and especially the shaft look amazingly similar to the RCBS TrimPro versions. Does anybody know if the Lyman shaft would fit the RCBS Trim Pro. I realize I'd probably have to order the Lyman cutting heads and pilots, but this would still save me some money (yes, I'm cheap).

There are a number of ways to go here. I have owned the Lyman Drill Press Trimmer for a number of years. It's not as expensive as the other trimmers, even the hand-cranked ones, since it only consists of a universal chuck that locks in the case head that is mounted to the bed of the drill press, and a cutter that goes into the drill press chuck. Length is controlled by the plunge depth adjustment on the drill press. In my experience, this unit can control case length +/- .001"

A friend of mine has taken his RCBS Trim Pro, removed the hand crank (1 screw), acquired a hex screw that fits the threaded hole in the shaft of the Trim Pro, and uses a power screwdrive with hex adapter to drive the trimmer. Works like a charm.
