Can anyone provide any information regarding a Lyman .36 Colt Navy with a silvered frame? One is being offered for sale locally, and I have no knowledge of Lyman repros. I am relatively new to C&B shooting. I enjoy my Pietta Remington '58 (in .44), but also want to get a taste of the Colt experience.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

IIRC, they were fairly decent guns, but I have no personal experience. They are no longer made. Perhaps they were made in Spain, perhaps not.

Thanks for the replies; What value today?

The person who is selling this is not sure whether it is a '51 or '61 Navy, but it sounds like a '51. He suggested a price of $150, but that sounds high to me for a used repro. I know it's hard to set a value sight unseen, but does his figure sound right? I could get a new one from Cabela's for only about $40more, although it would be a standard blued frame. Does the silver frame add anything to the value (or is it actually a negative)?

Thanks for the replies.

Is it really silvered or nickeled or chrome??
Sometimes makers will use a brass frame and nickel plate them. It looks nice but the gun will be weaker than normal and require you to use light powder loads. Shooting heavy loads over time stretches the frame.
As for price, brass is cheaper.
If it is truly silver plating over steel it would likely add $$ -- but I don't know how much.

Based on the Blue Book values, it seems it must be a brass frame with plating. I guess his asking price of $150 is a little high. If I look at it, I will try a magnet on the frame to be sure.

Thanks for the additional information.

By the way, is the Blue Book on line?

New Blue Books come out in April each year. Updates for the software version are on the website at irregular intervals.
