I am probably late on this but I just noticed Lyman's has a new 50th Edition. Probably old news but never the less.

Yeah, that was bound to happen at that price. They have been steadily reducing the price over the last month. Sorry they are gone.

If one has the 49th edition and fires rounds that were created in 1925 or before (the most "modern" round I fire is .270), is there any need to purchase the 50th edition? Any interesting articles in the front? If not, perhaps I will purchase the 50th edition on clearance when the 51st edition comes out.

I would say your good with 49 orp. It covers everything I load as well.
