Hey guys. Recently bought an M&P 9 from a buddy of mine and I absolutely love it....other than the trigger. I was talking to a guy at my club and he was telling me that he put the aluminum AEK trigger and hard sear in and it made a huge difference. He didn't replace anything else.
My question is....anyone else do this? Would it be a safe set-up for competition only? Any insight is appreciated!

Thanks
Adam

Apex Tactical carries a few diiferent trigger kits for your gun. I believe they do carry 1 for competition and 1 for carry. The competition one has a lighter trigger pull. I didn't think it was too hard replacing the springs on my wifes m&p. Apex has serveral videos that are informative. It will give you an idea if you are up for it. It definitely got rid of that gritty feeling in the trigger pull.

Apex makes good stuff, but doing an action job on an M&P is pretty straightforward, so rather than buy an Apex trigger group, I followed Burwell's instructions below. I kept the stock springs, but the trigger is crisper with less overtravel.

One thing I did order from Apex, and can highly recommend, though, is their forged extractor. I've seen numerous factory M&P extractors fail, and after asking around, it seems it's common with M&Ps after 5k-ish rounds. Unlike a trigger, it can't be "improved", so replacement with the strong Apex extractor seemed the wisest route.

I put the basic carry APEX kit in several M&Ps shortly after they first came out. Easy to install and in my opinion better than the M&P Pro trigger.

I am happy with my M&P triggers now.

APEX has a few more options today than were available back when I was installing mine.

The Burwell trigger job is good as well. A bit more work, a bit less money.

Had a M&P45c, put the apex FSS and it improved the trigger tremendously. But I still hated it. Gave the trigger to a buddy and sold the gun...

If you aren't going to buy a whole kit I'd highly recommend their Ultimate Striker Block to smooth up the trigger stroke...or you can re-profile it following the Burwell video; I'm not that skilled...their Hard Sear is a really nice product and takes a lot of guesswork out of tuning the action

I have the FSS in my M&P9 which I shoot in IDPA, but don't have experience with the AEK trigger (they hadn't released it yet). Don't mix-n-match AEK and FSS parts...even if they look alike, the angles and profiles are different

I've no issues with the stock trigger on the M&P 9, 40, 45, or 40c. I shoot them way better than any stock Glock trigger (I've 17, 20, 21 & 22 gen4 which is by far the best for me until I added the 3.5lb connectors to the others). Looking to pick up a Shied soon. How it fits you matters a lot.

I have no real issue with the stock trigger either. But, if I can get it close to my 1911 trigger, I'm going to do it.

Apex Tactical....

I saw a interesting video about M&P triggers on www.gunsamerica.com . They were explaining how the "polymer" Glock type M&P trigger could be put into most models with little problem.
Apex has a few styles but Id go with this choice. I've owned 2 M&Ps in the past and would buy a new one to carry on security details.
A few NIB M&Ps I handled last summer had awful factory triggers.
I put this to S&W's ramped up factory production & lowered QC. They reportedly doubled in size since 2009 due to the massive increase in sales/LE contracts.
Gunsmith & SWAT commander David Bowie, www.BowieTacticalConcepts.com is widely known for M&P custom work. He does triggers and night sights.
Bowie also works on Glocks & XDs.

As others have said, they have a carry kit and a competition kit. It's like night and day. The kit made my M&P go from by far the worst trigger in my safe to probably the best. Granted, it doesn't have too much competition, but it is well worth it.

If Apex didn't make the kit, I wouldn't have bought my M&P.
