I just received my M1 Carbine the other day. My question is about ammunition. I am not very familiar with the Carbine but I do own an M1 Garand. I know for the Garand I buy Lake City or use the Greek. I even reload for it. As to the carbine - are there any restrictions in using commercial ammunition. I know on the Garand the concern is to hot a load and bending the op rod. Is there anything to be concerned with as to the carbine. Sure would appreciate any info about this or anything else I need to be aware of.

Thanks

I would think since the round is almost exclusive (aside from Ruger pistols, etc.) to that rifle, any military or commercial .30 Carbine load would be fine.

Some talk of jams with soft points or hollow points, but I've never experienced that.

+1

most rounds are made for that rifle, you shouldn't have any problems with stuff you find at the local sporting goods store.

personally i stay away from wolf... it functions fine in my quality hardware carbine but it's dirty and a bit underpowered (and my universal hates the stuff)

aguila is good stuff... just a couple bucks per box more than wolf but much better

all commercial loads are either the military load or lighter given the fact that the wide majority of people buying .30carbine are using in their M1 carbines...

Most commercial loads are a duplicate of the military loading including a 110 ball projectile. I have seen some 110 grain soft point loads by Remington. I don't know if anyone makes a hollow point in that caliber but I would certainly be interested in one.

My 1943 Inland came with a box of UMC ammo that ran fine in it, but usually I use Wolf brand that has always worked fine also. Finally got my dies and bullet to start reloading for it though, found 300 brass cases at the range this summer to start off with. That gun came from a 3 war vet I knew for 300 dollars a couple years ago, civilian sell-off just after WWII. I dont find that gun to picky about what ammo I use and its been very reliable in my opinion.

I've heard bad things about the Wolf. "Commie Ammo is for Commie Guns."

I stocked up on Aguila from the CMP. Shoots great.

+1 against the wolf. Exact same rule. Wolf is fine for AKs, Makarovs, SKSs, etc. It is not for ARs, Mini 30s, 1911s, and especially not for my grandfather's heirloom Inland. Maybe the steel case won't ding up the chamber. Maybe it's not all that dirty. I'm not going to find out the hard way.

Thanks for the info guys. I did not know that the ammo was pretty much exclusive to the carbine. Cool. Yeh, I just looked on cmp and see the ammo. Thanks again for the clarification.

Ammoman has Federal American Eagle 110 FMJ for $179/500 rounds delivered. Or $329/1K delivered. Pretty good deal, I think.
