M1 Garand OTIS cleaning option

I thought that cleaning foam would not be good to use on an M1 Garand because the foam could get into the gas cylinder and possibly carry some crud in with it. Is this true?

I've used the Otis system with ALL of my Garands and been very happy. NEVER a bore snake. With the modern cleaning products, need for brushes is all but eliminated if you clean on a regular basis. Yes I will take a chamber brush to mine once a month during competition season. My comp Garand started out guaging .75 at the muzzle and this morning, 4 years of comp later, gauged it after cleaning up from yesterday's match it guaged .75. Probably 2000-3000 rounds since I bought her. She will still clean the SR-1 when I do my part.

The gas cylinder is easily and quickly removed if that's a concern for you.
