Is it true that stocks are drying up for Garands. I dont have one yet and want one, but was saving up for an AR-15. Sould i buy an M1 instead? How do you get one from CMP cheap?

Their best grade, the Service grade, has been dried up. It appears that they have broadened the standards by which they were judged, and now call them Field grades. Good news is that the price is $125 less. Bad news is, they may not be in as good condition.

I would recommend buying one if you want one. I had two, and regret selling my second now that I heard the news.

Also, the Greek racks have been taking a hard hit being priced at $295. Last time I was there, four different guys walked in and bought their 8 rifle limit of Greek Racks. That was 32 Greek rack rifles in the three hours I was there. I can't imagine the number that go through the mail-order.

If Ohio isn't too far for you to consider driving, think about taking a trip to the North store. It is in Port Clinton, Ohio, about halfway through the state on the Lake Erie shore. You can dig through all the different grades, and pick the rifle that looks the best to you.
