I put this here since I figured Rifle nuts would care more than the general population.

My wife works in a pawn shop here in Oklahoma. Most of the "good" guns I get myself, but I am not at all intereted in this. . .Somebody on here might be VERY interested.

She bought a M1 yesterday, which is not unusual. However it was, apparently, made by IBM Corp during the first World War.

it is marked: u.s. carbine cal 30 m1 ibm ser #372xxx

As is the custom of pawn shops, she didn't give the guy full market value.

She says it is in rough shape, but is gonna email me pics in a few, so I will post them.

Her boss has it listed for $500 right now. . .

I honestly have no idea if this is of any value to anybody, but I had never heard of IBM making rifles.

M1 carbines have a very interesting history. A lot of "unusual" companies made them , including IBM, Rock-Ola, Postal Meter, etc.

Go to Jouster.com for some great info about them.

P.S.- They were not made until WWII.

from http://www-1.ibm.com/ibm/history/history/decade_1940.html

When World War II began, all IBM facilities were placed at the disposal of the U.S. government. IBM's product line expanded to include bombsights, rifles and engine parts - in all, more than three dozen major ordnance items. Thomas Watson, Sr., set a nominal one percent profit on those products and used the money to establish a fund for widows and orphans of IBM war casualties.

Then there's the Apple M1 Carbine.

All the parts are proprietary, and its owners swears they're easier to use, and "it's better for graphics!"

Think different.

Think different.
Not what I would've said...

Jam different. :p

Or the Linux M1 carbine: Every single gun is custom-made to the shooter's specific requirements, never jams, but finding mags/ammo is a problem unless you're willing to make your own. :uhoh: ;)

Skunk:
The Macintosh M-1: Point and Click, dude...Point and Click! Works everytime!
The Microsoft M-1 crashes with so many error messages you don't know what to do but reformat and reload. Imagine the terror of looking down those iron sights and seeing nothing but the Blue Screen of Death!:what:
