OK, here you go. Woodless rack grade Winchester bought at the North store on January 29. Installed rear sight and SA 8 66 barrel with TE of 4 and MW of 0. Bought a stock off of someone and refinished it with my own stock stain that I developed. After refinishing it, the cartouche which was unreadable, became legible and says "WRA" with "WB" below it. Ah, there is a God. Just installed a WRA bolt to replace the SA bolt that came with it. It's coming along just fine.

Here you go...a National Postal Meter/Union Switch and Signal M1 Carbine made in 1943. Complete with original sling and a butt-stock mag. pouch made in the same year (and in my home-town by a company that is still in business).

If anyone has any information on the Union Switch and Signal Carbines that were made for Nat. Postal Meter I am all ears, I have checked a few books but have been unable to determine how many were produced. I was told there were only a few thousand, but that is a very broad statement.

My CMP Garand that came with nice metal but the most trashed and beaten stock I have just about ever seen. Can't imagine how the wood and metal could be so different in condition. I ordered the HR because I heard they were in better shape than the WW II veterans but this one was a real mess. Should have bought a replacement stock but instead I spent 3 days trying to salvage the original wood. It now looks slightly less than decent which is a big improvement. The photo is flattering, not as nice in person.





Also bought a Carbine from the CMP. While not as bad as the Garand it was a little disappointing so I sold it to someone who was hot to have a CMP Carbine and didn't want to wait 3-6 months to get it.

While I was waiting for the Carbine to arrive I bought a similar rifle off GunBroker that was in slightly worse shape but I decided to keep it as a plinker figuring I only wanted one and the CMP rifle would be easier to sell. Besides, I am intrigued by the 4/44 date. Just 2 months before D-Day I wonder if it went ashore at Omaha Beach? It's a real beater but it does what I need it to do.
