What kind of scope mounts are available for the M14/M1A rifle? I'm not talking about long-eye-relief models, either.

I hear Springfield Armory's is pretty crappy. So what's a good one? Is there some kind of quick-detach setup available?

I've got the ARMS #18 on mine and it's been rock solid; I've also seen some other three point mounts and they all seem to attach the same way: index on the side of the receiver and a insert that replaces the stripper clip block, then a set screw type of contact that touches on the receiver over the chamber area.

The Springfield mount is ok I quess, especially of you get the 3rd Gen mount that's a little more solid.

Best ones are the steel Brookfield Precision (are they still made?). I think the ARMS ones are clones of the Brookfield.

The Brookfields are history....you see them on EBAY ect for big bucks....i;ve got an ARMS 18 on mine.......DICK

ARMS #18 mounts are most definitely NOT...

Clones of the Brookfield Precision mounts. Matter of fact, they were developed separately, and Uncle Sam even saw fit to issue them separate NSN's, so that if either manufacturer couldn't keep the production going during the contract, the other could supply theirs. Which happened to be a good thing, considering that Brookfield Precision's delivery schedule is spotty at best. Here's a pic of the ARMS #18 mount foundation, as seen on Fulton Armory's website:

Coincidentally, I stumbled through several mounts, including alloy variants from Springfield Inc, B-Square, and a couple others, before settling on the ARMS #18 for my M14NM. Be advised, availability of the ARMS #18 can be a problem, too. :(
