M16 myths

I used an M16A1. Like some others have said, I kept it clean and had no problems, no jams. At various times I used a standard 1911 .45, and a pump shotgun. Most of the time it was my M16. I was raised shooting a .30 06 and .30 30. Seeing the effects of the .556, I always thought it created a lot of damage for such a small round.

Herrwalther is correct. The only difference between the A3 and A4 versions of the M16 is the selector switch. The A3 is Safe, Semi, Auto while the A4 is Safe Semi, Burst. I didn't get issued my first M16A2 until January 1992 when I arrived in Germany, until then I was always issued a M16A1. Though I did spend more time carrying the M60 as my primary weapon than I did the M16 A1 or A2. They always stuck us skinny guys with the pig.
