M16A1 vehicle rack

The thread title says is it all...I'm looking at mounting options for an M16A1. I'm aware of the usual mounts from Big Sky, Pro-Gard and Tufloc. Anyone know of any others? Ability to mount either an M16A1 or a Remington 870 would be ideal.

Big Sky Racks has a model that can fit an M16 or an 870 with the changing of an insert, but it looks like it will only take a A2.

I use these on my jeeps and trucks with the non electrict key lock they sell.

Now get me an answer to my post asking if the "6.25" NcStar gas tube rail mount for an SKS advertised everywhere for $21 or so fits a Russian or Chinese SKS or only a Yugo as I suspect. We both got 0 answers to our qustions.

coronach, take an old 20 rnd magazine, remove the base plate, weld it to wherever you want the gun to be. then just slide the gun on til it clicks. press the mag release button to remove.

No, we're looking for mounts for cruisers. We need something that can accommodate a M16A1 (w/30 round mag) or a Rem 870 (depending on which officer is in the car that day). Santa Cruz seems to fit the bill. Big Sky has some stuff that looks promising, too.

I got tapped to provide suggestions because I'm the local [strike]gun nut[/strike] Firearms Enthusiast. Normally the ordies would do it, but we're trying to avoid the bureaucracy of going through them. We have enough petty cash to buy a few here and a few there, and getting anything done through normal channels takes about a million years.

Seems like they could both hold either a shotgun or AR without any problems (in fact,the Kolpin could hld both at the same time it looks like).Not sure,as I have no experance in this are, but these are just 2 things I had seen when browsing around before, and they seem pretty versital and inexpensive.

I've used the Big Sky overhead double racks in a couple of vehicles, and so far, they are my favorite. I havent had any troubles using my AR's of different configurations, AK's, and a couple of other different rifles and shotguns.

The Galls lock is your standard shotgun lock, the A1 handguard won't fit (at least not where the lock would need to be positioned to also work with an 870. The Kolpin mount might work, if we go floor mounted. But I think they want a cage/partition/roof style mount.
