I have two m1916 spanish short mausers. Original specs. No modifications. The ammo is 7 x 57 ammo.
Is there another correct ammo size to order. Where can i order this ammo? Thanks

As far as I know, the original calibre for the Spanish Mausers was 7x57mm Mauser, but later some were converted to 7.62x51mm for the NATO Cetme round.

They should be chambered for 7x57 Mauser.
Or 7mm Mauser in American ammo speak.

I have never heard of a 7x51 Mauser.

Oh wait!
A 7x51 would be the old .276 Pedersen!
But that ain't what yours are chambered for I betcha!

Yeah... your 1916 is either 7x57mm (7mm Mauser) or 7.62X51. If the muzzle swallows a .284 bullet its probably a Guardia Civil 1916 that was rechambered for the 7.62X51. Most folks with those don't shoot the higher pressure .308 stuff for fear of facial reconstruction.

Those mausers shoot 7mm ammo, you can find some ammo at ammunitiontogo.com. The Spanish mausers don't like soft point ammo since the lead gets crushed while feeding it in, shoot fmj or you're stuck loading one bullet at a time. I had great fun with my Spanish mauser but the cost of ammo made me retire it for something else.

After checking that the headspace was right for a 7.62x51 then I would shoot handloads loaded down with say 300 savage loads.
