CMP has some rack grade M1917 rfiles for sale. $400.

Anyone purchase one? Was it a decent shooter? Bore bad?

Eddystone is where they poorly heat treated early receivers. Lists of serial numbers are available that are safe. Otherwise, go with a Remington or Winchester made 1917.

Mine is a Winchester. It shoots very well, but when you run a patch through it you can feel variations in the bore. While it is fun to shoot, the stock doesn't fit anyone. The comb of the stock is at least 1" too low.

very early early examples.

otherwise theres no differance between Rem, Win and Eddy rifles.

if you think about it 400 isnt that much for a rifle nowa days id buy one just for a range toy to shoot now and then but mostly a wall hanger

they really didnt make too many of them so if 2-3 years they will probably go up by 50 percent

and i have heard the cmp ratings are worst case senerios

thanks for the replies

Thanks for the replies.

Apparently, CMP had some service grade M1917s on sale starting 9-18-2008. They are all gone now. I have read they were selling those for $500.

I'd like a shooter, not a wall hanger.

Mailed the paperwork today. CMP says they are caught up on orders, so I should have it in a week or so.

I'll post pics when it comes in.
