Hey all. I've always been a Warsaw pact sympathizer. I like AKs, SKS, and Dragunov rifles. I never thought I'd go beyond that. However, as many of you know, collecting firearms is a slippery slope.

Recently a friend offered to sell me his Springfield Armory M1A (service grade) for $600, plus three 20 round mags and 225 rounds of .308. I think he put maybe 400 rounds through it overall and just got bored with it.

So the deal is $600 for a service grade M1A. I think this sounds like a good deal but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

What do you M1A owners like or dislike about it? How accurate is it?

You'll never get another deal that good,dude-go for it!

I have had mine for years-hunted and won rifle matches with it-IMHO they are GREAT guns.

If you don't want it. I'll buy it. Heck, I'll pay much more than that. :)

Seriously.

If it helps you any the US Military gave away thousands of M14 to friendly Eastern European when the USSR collapsed.

That is a GREAT price for an M1A

Like db tanker said, I'd go buy that rifle and then go to church. I'd go to church, however, to confess for stealing from a friend!:D

Thanks for the advice. I think I will jump on this before he changes his mind. :)

Got any more friends who are economically challenged? :neener:

Just kidding. Sounds like you have a good friend and they are offering you a screaming deal. Run do not walk with cash in hand and at least a 12 pack of their favorite brew.

Chris

Wouldn't that be...

Your buddy is a idiot.

"Your buddy is an idiot." - assuming we know the motives of the seller and are given free reign to call people such things here on THR? :scrutiny:

Somethings wrong with it. Give me his number and I'll call him up and check it out over the phone. I don't want you to end up with a bad rifle. Hey, I'm just looking out for a fellow THR member

Service Grade is a gradation used by CMP for an M1 Garand. The Garand comes in many flavors, such as rack grade, field grade, service grade, correct grade and collector grade. That is because all M1s are used.

But what the heck is an M1A service grade?
