M1A Scout Squad dilemma

I just put some money down on a new Scout Squad at my local dealer. I'm beginning to have second thoughts, so I was hoping I could get a little info based on practical experience here that might point me one way or the other.

I rather enjoy shooting with iron sights, but like more than a few of us my eyesight just ain't quite what it used to be. This rifle obviously presents some optics challenges with the forward mounted rail. I would ideally like to have the option of mounting some type of variable power optic in 1-4 (say a Trijicon Accupoint) or something of that nature. I'm not crazy about forking out $300+ for a new mount from Smith Enterprises or the like. I'm not totally opposed to a CQB red dot solution, but would prefer what's mentioned above. I'm beginning to think that I am pushing the envelope with regards to the intended use for a scout rifle.

Any thoughts, suggestions or even pics would be mucho appreciated.

Hi- I have the scout and I love it. Regarding optics, I planned on using irons only (go old school!). However my eyes ain't as good as I'd like, so I went with the Leupold 2.5x Scout Scope on the forward mount. Super fast aquisition, very clear, ok to 100 yards. After 100, it's still too low magnification from accuracy. At 50 yards, it's perfect.
Not sure if I could do it again, I'd go for higher mag and a traditional scope and mount.
It's a great rifle, enjoy it!

burris has handgun scopes (extended eye relief)
with 2-7x variable magnification and 3-12x variable magnification you can get those with an illuminated reticle too

Burris 3-12x pistol scope. Trust me on that one! If you want a little better CQB optic, go with the 2-7x. I have the 2-7x and sort of wish I had gotten the 3-12x. I have mine on Quick release rings and use the irons most of the time. I really love the irons, and my eyesight isn't all that great either. The glasses make it work.

Either way, the burris psitol scopes with electro-dot reticle are the way to go. The scope will get hot if you shoot 100 shots/hour due to the barrel mount, but it keeps on ticking. Mine shoots 2 MOA or better 5-shot groups all the time with match ammo. Great rifle.

Leupold offers them as well. Fixed, 2x and 4x.

Variable, 2.5x8.

And, I'm sure other companies have similar offerings.

Those guys can tell you every single available rear scope mount on the market, prices and quality. You don't have to settle for forward mount, and you don't have to pay $300.

Funny you should ask; I just got back from the range with my SA scout MiA. I have an eotech installed and like it plenty. No magnification, but was busting plates offhand at 200 yards nearly every shot and a fair number of hits at 300. Imo, this set up is a tactical rifle that you throw up to your shoulder and hit your target, standing on your back legs. It is quick, balances excellently, just a heck of a rifle. The quick dismount cam is a necessary option.

Well, If you're not wanting it, let me know and I'll buy it off you for a couple hundred less than you bought it. I've been saving up to pick one up myself. A scout rifle's got it's own worth to it; if you want to just throw a regular scope on it you may as well get a M1A Loaded (match parts, at least).
