I would like to get a new M4, Ar-15, of the sort. i am looking at Rock River, Bushmaster, as well as Smith and Wesson. I am looking for something pretty decent any suggestions?

Mantis, I haven't got any type of AR, but any of the ones you listed will be great, from what I've heard. I shot an S&W last time I was at the range.

Looked at the ADS rifles? This months SWAT magazine has an article on them. I might be biased as I know the cover model, author, FFL who supplied the rifles, and shoot at the range they shot the pics at, but they really are nice guns. Very well priced too.

Yeah I heard Rock River was a really good one the PD in West Palm is switching over to that particular brand. There is a guy who can customize them near me so I am not sure if I want to go stock or customized yet.

I like Bushmaster, but my experience with this brand was before they were bought out and were still a public company. I don't know if things have improved or went the other way since. My Bushy was not an M4 but the XM15, essentially the same platform.

i have also heard good things about the Rock Rivers.

Yeah My buddy is about to get out of the Army and he has a bunch of different accessories for his M4 so, do I have to go Bushmaster or are they universal?

Oh ok, do you think I would be better off with a picatinny rail or stock upper hand placement thingy..

A good starter AR would be a 16" midlength gas, flat top. Or the 14.5" carbine length gas with a permanently attached flash hider muzzle brake and flat top. If you are getting a 16" barrel it's pointless to go with the carbine length gas IMO.

Buy the gun, and a bunch of mags, and ammo, learn to run it from a professional trainer, and then pimp it out after you learn how to run it.

Sweet thank you i am not sure what that means yet but I will find out! I think i am going to go with Rock River because that guy who builds them will give me a military discount! Any other suggestions?

Roll with the S&W. Of the ARs you listed, it's the highest quality.

Also, take a look at Charles Daly Defense.

the issue with Rock River as I understood it, was that stock is somehow differently sized than mil-spec. Meaning, after market stocks may be an issue (someone step in here, I'm not 100% informed). I personally have a S&W, its been great and has a great fit and finish, I'm told one of the tighter in the industry (at this price level), though at least initially S&W's were built by stag. Could still be...

choice

I have both Bushmaster and RRA. No complaints from either.
But I shoot my M1A more than the others. I am a .30 cal. fan.

I dont have any of these but Im just throwing out some names (some you have already listed) that you might check out:
Bushmaster, DPMS, Olympic Arms, Stag Arms, Rock River, Colt, Smith and Wesson.

Just a few you could check out

I do have a Charles Daly and its great, going by the " chart " mentioned above, its number 4 for being mil-standard and other features built into it. Was at the range today with it to test some reloads and other ammo, it eats everything I put in it. Wolf ammo worked better for consistency over Rem UMC. I suggest looking at the CD line, around the 900 range. for the CDD-15 M4 carbine.

THe only decent ones are Colt, Noveske and LMT - in that order.

I'd have to disagree. Not only with the order, but also that they are the "only decent ones" (although they may be the top 3). To say that they are the only decent ones would indicate one does not really have much experience with AR15's.

That said, (this is directed to the OP), what is your budget?

I'm not a +1 kinda guy, but this one is a good post.
