Hi folks. I am going to be spending 10 days in Madison in March for some work training. I will be there over a weekend and I was wondering if any THR members live in the area and would consider yourself qualified to give me some basic rifleman instruction.

I recently purchased a Remington 700 in .308 but have never had any real training or even advice. I am pretty good with a pistol (I shoot IDPA) and I shoot a lot of rifle for fun, but I want to see if I have any major issues.

I asked this same question to Millford Hills but they have not gotten back to me.

I would not be bringing my gun, but would be happy to bring some ammo or pay to use your, and pay you for your time.

Any takers? I can and will rent a car if need be.

Shoot Mike, it has beem -10 here for a week!! But, I am looking forward to it. I like your country out there and the people.

I spent 2 weeks in Madison on campus 30 years ago in January. The high for the 2 weeks was 7 degrees F. But the wind was about 40 MPH out of the north.

It was a miserable 2 weeks.

And the people were OK but extremely liberal. They had a student Communist Party organization on campus.

And the women not very good looking---at least not where I was.

Milford's new range and range building are beautiful. The owners, Dan and Lloyd, are great guys. You will definitely need to bring the big wallet, but you will enjoy every minute. Have fun!

My big internal debate right now is rent a rifle (Unknown Cost) or buy a pelican case and bring my own rifle.

Bringing my own takes me down that dark and scary flying with a rifle road. I have lost so many bags over the years it terrifies me. Although, a part of me says dont worry about it because they will be watching it closer than a normal bag but I still have a feeling that it will look like gold to some scum bag airline baggage handler.

As far as the range fees, they were low ($18 for the whole day) and the instructor (Dennis Koback) is onlt $100 an hour so other than renting the car, and renting/travelling with my own rifle the whole day will probably be under $300... not bad.
