Took my Kahr K40 to the range for the first time in over 2 years, and everything went great except that the magazine dropped to the ground randomly on 4 occasions within 100 rounds. The next round is not chambered. I keep a thumbs forward grip. I doubt I'm hitting the release, but it happens so randomly that it's hard to say one way or another.

Anyone else had a similar problem before? Any suggestions?

Never messed with a khar. But I had a well worn Glock 20 10mm do that. I replaced the mag catch and spring and was good to go. May or may not have been a glock brand extended mag catch. Either way it had many thousand rounds on it.

I never had that happen with my K40. I would pull the mag release to see if it's worn or damaged on the portion that engages the magazine. If that checks out I'd replace the mag release spring.

I sold my Kahr several years ago because the recoil caused the mag release to bump my thumb (I use thumbs forward grip as well). It took me a while to figure it out but when I did and changed my grip to positively not be near the mag release, the dropping mag also stopped. The recoil is a violent action and it does not take much for the release to contact the thumb. Before selling it, I seriously considered filing down the release enough to prevent it but decided to sell it. I loved my Kahr.....

The magazine release may be out of spec. or not fully engaging. Try letting some other guys shoot it and see if it still drops the magazine. If it does not then your grip is most likely the problem.

Had a friend who owned a CW45 that kept dropping the mag. He was hitting the mag release during recoil. He swore he was not but I ran 6 mags in a row without an issue. I would definitely check your grip. He ended up selling me the gun real cheap.

I had this problem with a Vektor CP1 where the mag release was near my right thumb.
I solved the problem with a left hand mag release, easily reached with my right index finger.
