Now that you guys have piqued my interest in the Ruger PCC (9mm), I've got a magazine question.

Apparently these guns can take either Ruger mags (two slightly different styles), or Glock mags. I own Glocks but only carry 9mm in a G43. So magazine compatibility with my carry pistol isn't a factor. I'm also in a capacity limited state, where 15 rounds is max. Both brands have 15 round mags available. I'd like to have 4 dedicated magazines if/when I buy one of these, and I doubt the included magazine will be a 17 rounder because of the restrictions, so I'll end up buying 4 either way. It appears the Ruger mags might be a little more expensive.

Any preference between the two designs as far as reliability, durability (particularly the mag catch indent), or anything else?

I don't own a Glock so - for my Ruger PCC, I just went with the Ruger mags. All seem to work well, no jams, nothing. I bet the Glock mags work well also, but - without any real reason to get Glock mags I'd rather just use the same brand magazines as the firearm.

I’m a Glock magazine fan. They are part of what makes Glocks so reliable, they’re cheap and best of all you can get Magpul magazines for Glock (should work in Ruger PCC) and they are somewhere near $12 each. Ruger can’t touch that. Get 12 Magpul magazines for the price of 4 Rugers.

I use Glock 19 mags in my Ruger pc9. They are cheap and flawless. Work in my Glock 19 too. I am limited to 10 rounders as I am in the “free state” of NY.

I had no idea Magpul made mags for Glock. A bunch of their G19 mags seems like the best option. Nice and inexpensive, and look slightly different than Glock OEM. That way I won't accidentally confuse them with the Glock mags I have for other cartridges.

Can the Magpul Glock magazines be left loaded for extended periods with damage to the feed lips?

I use SR9 mags in my PC Carbine, but I own a Ruger 9E and a Ruger SR9C. By most reviews both Glock and Ruger mags work fine. Use what you got.

There are some reports of the mag catch wearing out the Glock mags, CROM USA makes a replacement mag catch that is polymer? to prevent this. Another issue with the PC Carbine in general I have read about is that over insertion of the mags will bend the ejector and cause ejection issues. There's a vid on YouTube with someone showing this issue.

I've got about 1,400 rounds through my PCC using Ruger mags with no issues.

Keep an eye on shop Ruger, they sometimes have replacement mag wells on sale. I picked up an extra SR9 mag well when they were on sale last time.

Good question and I’ve heard they don’t like to be left loaded for long periods but I don’t think the feed lips have problems. The rounds just don’t feed up as well after sitting loaded. Maybe it’s the spring or the round “sticking” to the sides. Idk. I have 15 Magpuls for range use but I always load them the night before. Never a failure. Maybe get some magpuls plus a couple of factory Glock mags for important occasions.

I use SR9 mags in mine, but I have 2 SR9s and they all work flawless. However I've seen plenty of review videos of guys using Glock mags and they seem to work as well. I'd prolly get Glock mags if I were you G19 mags are everywhere.

One thing to consider. My neighbor recently purchased a PCC and as he has a few Glocks I changed out the mag well for Glock mags for him. With the Ruger mag that came with his,I bought a Glock mag and traded it for his Ruger one. What a mistake....Ruger no longer supplies the great Italian made (Mec-Gar?) mag, like the ones that came with my PCC,they are issuing a cheaply made USA one (Promag?). Long story short, this piece of junk was defective. The follower would jam on a slot cut in the front corner of the mag. The Italian one doesn't have this slot and a different follower. I sent it back to Ruger explaining this and they sent me another POS one. You can longer get the good SR9 mag from Ruger, Put the Glock magwell in your carbine and buy Magpul mags for it. The good Ruger mags have a black follower, the new ones have a orange one

Good advice guys!

This went from "Ooh what an interesting little gun!" to "I better assess all the options just in case I decide to buy one."

So hypothetically I could get a bunch of 9mm FMJ, a couple 50 rounds boxes of 124gr JHPs, use a sling I already have, a red dot with rail mount that I already have, and reappropriate a TLR-1 from one of my Glocks to put on the convenient little chunk of rail at the end of the stock.

Then dedicate a couple G19 (or maybe 15rd G17) mags I already own to keep loaded with the JHPs, and 4 p-mags for range work and reserve.

[Sarcasm] I'm still on the fence about getting one. [Sarcasm]

Now to play the game of how many days can I continue to not buy this gun.

I have one. I also have a couple Glock 9mm's, so it made sense for me to use Glock mags. I have a bunch of them, including a couple of 30 rounders, which look cool but are a bit over the top.

I had one of the first generation Ruger PCCs. It would only accept the (P94) Ruger Magazines. They were expensive and hard to find. I would get some Magpul Glock magazines for it. They're about 2/3 the price of a Glock OEM magazine.

I'd also consider a Glock19 or 26 to go with it

Glock mags are excellent and abundant , if you're wanting common mags that just work you can't go wrong. Plus you can find surplus used glock mags pretty cheap if you look

This probably won't happen. I'm too invested in .357 Sig and 10mm to go that way. I do have some 9mm conversion barrels though.
Wish they'd do pcc in 45 auto & 10mm. I'd be on that 10mm version without hesitation . so fast , my wife's head would spin and hopefully the spinning head would prevent her from seeing me creep in the house with my new gun.

I bet this is on the radar at some point. The design of the bolt/carrier looks to allow heavier inserts in the future.

As others have said, my inclination would be Glock mags. They'll be more plentiful and probably cheaper.

I really want a PCC myself too, just haven't been able to convince myself to get it. I'd need to buy a bigger safe as I'm out of room, which would make it a bit of a harder sell to the wife, haha.

I have a bunch of both Magpul and Glock mags loaded long term. No issues with either.

I recently picked up a Magpul Backpacker stock for my Ruger PC 9. I was trying to hold out and get a tan one but they sold out fast in the initial release that I missed. Magpul did another release of the stocks but only had black this time. I snagged one in black.

It actually makes the Ruger feel more handy / lighter weight. The butstock no longer gets caught on my clothing when shouldering the rifle as well. I like the "hidden" magazine storage compartment.

Looks like black is in stock now:

Downsides of the Backpacker stock:
It's sold A la Carte - meaning if you want to add a sling you need to buy Magpul quick disconnect parts separately. If you want to add a flashlight, you need to buy those parts separately.

The original Ruger PC 9 stock had a flashlight rail and sling swivel studs.
