Not sure if this is the best area to post this but here goes anyway: I just bought a brand new Ruger SR45 this morning, gave it a light cleaning and went shooting. I was using WWB and everytime I took a shot the magazine fell out. Did I do something wrong when cleaning it? I have a SR9 and SR9c and never had a problem after cleaning. I love all my Rugers, semi,revolvers...I was quite surprised when this happened. Is there an easy fix or is this going to be a send back ?

There was an issue like that with the mags the first year they came out. I have not heard to much about it lately. If you are 100% sure it is not operator induced I would suggest you give Ruger a call. I had a few issues with mine in the beginning. Ruger took care of it. I have not had any issues since. I have over 2500 rounds through it now. Mostly my reloads. Took about 500 rounds to break it in. Smooth as a babies butt now. I know how it feels when you get a brand new firearm and it starts to malfunction. I just purchased an LCP last week. On the 58th round the take down pin ejected and the entire slide assembly went down range about 4 Ft. Still had a live cartridge in the chamber. Called Ruger Monday and with in ten minutes I had an RMA number in my email. It was picked up by UPS yesterday at no cost to me and it is on it's way to Arizona. A hassle yes but I have no worries. Ruger backs up their product. It just takes some patience on my part. The turn around time is usually about a week. Stick with the SR45 it is a good platform. Good luck.

I keep wondering why we, the consumers, have to be the final quality control for a new handgun.

Then waste our money and time sending things back that should be perfect in the first place??
Didn't used to be that way!!

I would be real PO'd if I bought a new Timex watch at Walmart for $15 and it didn't keep time!!

But we put up with it from today's $400 - $1,000 handgun manufactures!

They cut out several levels of Quality Contol inspections during manufacture to save money.

Then roll the dice on what percentage won't make it through the first 50 rounds they have to fix under warranty.

That right there just ain't right!!!

Yep, I agree. Acceptance can be a scarey process. One of the reasons I buy Ruger's is the customer service. These days it is a must.

I remember a time when American cars came with a little bag of unused parts: nuts, bolts, screws, springs, pins, clips and such. It always sort of bothered me when a quick look in the trunk revealed that little bag. Were they just not needed or are all the nuts installed on the undercarriage or what?

At least when you buy a gun you don't get a bag of uninstalled parts to make you wonder what's missing internally.

As the old TV ad used to say, "We've come a long way baby".

At least its not as bad as computer software... But the answer to your question is probably because guns are a bit like any other man-made product or service.

Think about all of your experience with cars, TVs, computers, fast food, SURGEONS(!), furnaces, clothes, financial services, phone and internet service providers, people who predict the weather, etc. When there are human involveds, things sometimes don't turned out as intended. ;)

(I've seen big improvements in car reliability over the years, and TVs and electronics. The rest seem to be a mixed bag.)

BEFORE you all bash Ruger, and start sending guns across the country.

Hand the gun to another individual to shoot. It is very possible that upon firing, your hand or finger is applying a slight bit of pressure to the mag release and it is your problem to correct, not Rugers.

I am not saying Ruger is not at fault, but as an instructor, I have seen your problem occur hundreds of times with all manufacturers, and a slightly different grip on the gun immediately corrected the problem.

I agree with you rcmodel. Sadly that is not how it is. I do consider a companies reputation for customer service as much as any other factor before making a purchase.

To the OP if you are certain it is the gun & not you call Ruger, explain the problem you are having & ask for a shipping label. While function was fine I had to send a firearm back to Ruger due to an issue with the finish. It was back within a week & they had repaired a scratch in another area that was entirely my fault. They will make it right.

Can't say enough good about Ruger CS. The mag kept disconnecting on my LC9s... I initially blamed it on holsters. Quick call to Ruger and I got a shipping label. Gun returned in 4 days, flawless since.

I tried my other magazine and same thing, so I called Ruger and got the return label and the female even looked for the closest UPS to take it to. She said it would be about 1 week before I get it back. So this is my first customer service experience with Ruger...so far so good!!

Someone on the line at Ruger forgot to check that magazine catch for function.

Ruger said to send the pistol back and within less than a week of sending it, I got it back! They replaced quite a few parts and said they repaired the barrel which seemed to be operating fine, was quite accurate. But it works and Rugers CS is very, very good!

Good to hear everything was fixed properly and taken care of in fairly short order. Now if only companies could be this diligent before the product leaves the factory.
