Magazine storage / organization?

I have a little plastic thing with drawers I use. My range bag also has little slots I always have filled with my most used mags. Right now it's got a bunch of 1911, Glock 17 and Sig P226 mags in it

I just get some of the small (shoe box size) plastic boxes from one of the $ stores and use a magic marker to note what's inside on the end of the box.. All magazines, holsters, etc. for a given type of gun go into a box, and then they're stacked outside the gun safe on a shelf. (I have one for miscellaneous stuff, too.) I leave some guns in the factory box with an extra mag or two in the box, and overflow in the shoe boxes.

Midway sells these cheap pistol carry cases with mag slots on the side... I have one designated for each of my autoloaders and that's where the mags are stored. When I go to the range, I just slip the pistol in and I know I have everything I need. This is following, of course, the time I showed up at the range with my Buckmark... and no mags. The Buck is a terrible single shot pistol. Midway also sells those cases in a magazine only case, too. Pretty handy for pretty cheap.

I keep extra/spare handgun magazines in zip lock bags. Magazines for each gun model have their own bag or bags. The bags are stored in several CD/DVD mini-milk crates. Currently, they occupy the floor of a safe but they could just as easily be placed on a shelf outside the safe.

None of these magazines are stored loaded. I do not keep magazines or guns kept in the storage safes loaded.

Rifle magazines are stored by rifle type in plastic storage bins.

My son is going to give me the same Christmas present this year as he gave me last year: a very large tackle box. Last year I used it for all of my gun cleaning stuff. This year I will put pistol magazines in it. I plan on finally sorting them all out and writing on them with a Sharpie which gun they go with. It will probably end up involving two tackle boxes, but that is my plan.

...a very large tackle box.

A multi-drawered tool box is also a good option, and you can find them on sale at SEARS (if they stay in business, and Harbor Freight. That'll probably be my next purchase for storage. (You can mark the drawers with a magic marker...)

I use small or medium size plastic boxes for each pistol's mags. Each box is labeled so my wife can put them with each pistol. I also keep a book of my collection. These things I do in case I kick the bucket and my wife can deal with my collection easily.
The medium box holds about 12 fifteen round 9mm mags. The small box holds about 6 .22 or .380 mags. The boxes cost $1 each at the Dollar Store and stack well. A cheap way to label, organize and store lots of mags.
