This is how I am now storing Magazines in my safe. I don't know if it is helpful to anyone but I thought I would share. They are the Gladware containers (some are generic) make sure they are not the kind that have the circle in the lid to store the lids together, they don't stack well. I purchase a label maker from Wal-mart for $24.00. Now if I can just figure out a better way to store the AR-15 Mags I will be good.

Some problems with mag storage - 1) rust, 2)dead rounds, 3) not knowing.

1) Live in the humid south, haven't seen this to be a problem? But easy enough to fix with a dehumidifier of some type.

2) Just because a round sits and sits doesn't mean its going to go bad.

3) Don't understand this one. If the magazine functions perfectly when put into storage, chances are it'll function properly after it comes out.

There are a bunch of stories (got one myself as of christmas) of magazines found after years of being lost and functioning perfectly, both rounds and magazines.

As a side note, one of my methods for storing fully charged magazines involves wrapping the mag in a paper towel then vacuum sealing them. Then I toss them in my Go bag, BOB, or vehicle. I usually keep them help together with elastic hair ties, though rubber bands would work as well. Cutting a small slit just before the seal allows me easy open access if I need to get to them in a hurry.

I don't have all of them loaded, only one for the SA 45acp and one for the G19. I also put a silica packet in each container.

How do you store multiple holsters that you use? Right now I just have them thrown in the corner of the safe.

I have lucked out and borrowed from other friends drawer o' holsters before I made the decision on mine so haven't had to spend a lot of big $ on a lot of leather. I just leave the other holster(s) in my sock drawer.

My old nylon and kydex go into the duffles with other odds and ends of my training gear.

I don't have tons of magazines, so it just makes sense to keep them loaded to me.

I had been "ASSuming" that the mags had been greased before loading and storage. And reminded that often greases separate over time, and the short chain components can find a way into the round.

I treat my mags with CLP... Glock, AK, AR, Taurus, 1911, etc etc. Many of them are stored in a damp basement and even the AK mags are no worse for it. A relatively airtight container and a silica pack should make them even less likely to wear.

Some mags are kept loaded, others not. A loaded mag spring will not wear out by just sitting. Springs wear out from repetitive cycling, not from sitting for 10 years (or 50 years) loaded or unloaded.

That being said, I try to buy less maintenance-intensive mags when possible. Stainless steel and polymer are examples. Don't forget to wipe the spring with CLP too (or whatever your choice of rust-preventer is).
