Magpouches, Pepper Spray, Multitools, Cell Phones, Pagers and...Confusion

I don't get to carry every day but I worked up a system that works for me. Wallet in FR pocket, phone FL pocket, folding knife clipped in each front pocket, keys on belt loop with an aluminum clip ring and nothing in the back pockets. My CZ 85 Compact is quite heavy so it's the only thing on my strong side. Weak side I have (always in this order, front to back) Flashlight, Leatherman Wave, double mag pouch.

When I practice I always grab starting at the back and working my way forward. That way I grab the two mags 1st. If I end up grabbing for a third mag then I should have had better awareness and had doomed myself from the start.

If I retain my mags they get dumped in whichever pocket is fastest (coat if I have one on, otherwise a back pocket).

You're trying to carry too much stuff.

What works for me.

Gun strong side hip, cell phone in a pocket. Spare mag weaks side hip, cuffs immediately behind the mag. That's off duty, and how I would carry on a CHL, minus cuffs, if I weren't a cop. Hell sometimes I don't even carry the spare mag.

At work everything is the same, except I carry two spare mags, and I put my collapsible baton between my mag carrier and cuff case.

Both on and off duty everything is concealed.

There is nothing in front of the gun or the mags, and everything is always in the same spot. Meaning when I reach down to my strong side the first thing I find is my gun, and weak side the first thing I find is my mags.

My daily carry:

1. EAA .38 Snub in OWB or IWB, strong-side at 3:30 or 4:00.
2. Speedloader, Kershaw Speed-Safe 1550ST, and change in strong-side front pocket.
3. Keys in weak-side front pocket.
4. Cell phone weak-side on belt at 9:00.
5. If I carry my Garrity LED light, the cell goes to 8:30 and the light at 9:00 on belt.

I'm buying my first auto for CCW in the next week, a Bersa MiniFirestorm .45. Spare mag for that (which will take a week or two to get - unfortunately has to be special ordered) will be in a mag carrier on weak-side belt, about 8:00 or 8:30.

I'm known to often leave the speedloader at home if I'm wearing pants with small pockets or drop into my strong-side jacket pocket in winter. The flashlight also stays in the car a lot as I haven't been out for my late-night walks in a while. (I need to though. I'm getting too much of a beer gut; which is sad, since I rarely drink alcoholic beverages.)

Of course, what each of us carries is a matter of personal taste and what makes us feel safe. As I read someone post here on THR, "You're only paranoid until SHTF. After SHTF, you were awfully well-prepared!"

"Because knives don't run out of ammo"

And people may run screaming if you use your sidearm to open a box

You could always;

1. Gain some weight...a longer belt would give you more options...
(do yourself a favor and get taller at the same time...symmetry is important)

2. Go with drop leg pouches....chicks dig that

Heaven help some of you people if you fall in the creek with all that ironmongery on :what:

Hilarious. Yeah I fit into the "carry light" crowd. Sometimes I have to do without, not that that is a bad thing. I'm not big on the batman belt. It's bad enough when I have a cell and pager on my belt.

Course when you are a mall ninja for hire like Skunk, you gotta have all that stuff on your belt or people will laugh at you for not being prepared. Rather than laughing at you for being too prepared, like it should be. :D

I can't believe how much some people carry. :what:

I keep this simple. I am not going into a war zone, and I feel prepared for most any situation that I am likely to encounter.

1 pistol, 1 extra mag, a knife, a cell phone and a good pair of boots (for running away).

I would love to get a surefire light, since I think that could help diffuse certain types of situations, but I need to save up some money. And even then, its not a true priority, since I don't ever get in that type of situation. And where would I carry it?

Techbrute,

Touche.

But to me, a flashlight has only a few limited applications. And when I decided how I am going to go about protecting myself, it wasn't a serious priority.

I would still like to get one at some point, but there are certain issues, such as where to carry it, that are getting in my way.

Maaan...now I feel under equipped.....

Glock 22 in holster with extra mag attached at 5:30 or in my cathartt pocket if cold, in the holster of course....
Wallet SS rear pocket, Cell 9:00 on belt
Work Keys LF pocket, Change/truck keys RF pocket.

Only bad part is driving, kinda uncomfortable back there, usually put under seat, in left side door pouch, or on pass. seat under my coat...

Thinking of getting a Shoulder holster

Mark,

Try sliding it over to 4:00 or 4:30. That should take some pressure off your back while sitting in the car, but still offer excellent draw-ability with a little practice.

And, like Skunk, this "mall ninja" carries a rather full list of equipment, but only on duty, with a duty rig (radio, stinger, 2 pairs of cuffs, latex gloves, multi-tool, cell phone). I'm more than happy to get that stuff off of my belt at the end of the shift! Our department is looking to add OC and/or Taser to that list. I'm only 5'10" 165 lbs. with a 32"-33" waist. I don't know where I'm gonna put it all! :D  :uhoh:

a flashlight has only a few limited applications.
I will disagree with that point. I will also point out that a gun only has ONE application, while a flashlight is an illumination tool, a submission tool, a striking tool, etc.

Get yourself a G2 for around $30 and go from there. :D

California's Draggin' You Down

It's not a Leather"person", Skunky, it's a "Leatherman"TM. No amount of California PC can overcome the trademark!

Just quit carrying all that stuff! Jeez, how are you gonna hug your date?

And when your date figures it out -- no apologies. Either she gets it, or tolerates it, or she does not. Even if she doesn't, she will in an off-hand way. But I digress.

Hey, here in Georgia, you can't go into an establishment that serves alcohol with your weapon. But I date my wife all the time, and she rarely knows I'm packing. It's because I have learned to be discreet, so I am able to use simple sleight of hand to remove and replace my piece as needed to accomplish the mission. I also try to minimalize equipment. But having said that, I usually have the weapon plus two extra mags, plus my brain (such as it is).

Why am I trying to conceal from my wife? I'm not. She doesn't mind. But if she can't figure it out, NOBODY CAN! It's a game I play to stay alert.

Either don't carry so much stuff, or carry smaller stuff. Make it possible to live the life you're trying to protect.

My everday carry consists of a commander 1911 IWB, Cold Steel Recon 1 clipped to pocket strong side, phone in weak side pocket, wallet in left cargo pocket (helps balance weight of gun on right side), keys, money (not in wallet). I don't use my rear pockets at all. When I'm going out at night I'll grab my surefire and stick it in my jacket or left front pocket. I don't usually carry an extra mag unless I'm going someplace shady...like tomorrow when I go to the heart of the ghetto to serve a summons. When I do carry it, it resides in a Tucker single mag pouch OWB at about 10 o'clock. No OC, multitools, or pagers. I keep tools in the car, and my swiss army keychain knife has a small screwdriver on it that I've used several times. I usually wear baggy clothes and have only tucked in my shirt about twice in the past few years, so concealment isn't an issue.

If I fall into a river I'll probably be ok as far as not drowning goes, but some of you guys may be in trouble :uhoh:

It is amazing what some of you people carry. I bet your chiropractors love you. :) Since we are laying it all out.
Wallet front left (comes out as soon as I get to my desk)
Cell front right (ditto)
car key front left (ditto squared)
sogwinder (front right,permanently)
Handkerchief right rear
SA XD-9 sc in Tex heritage IWB at 4o'clock
2 mags in brief case (I know its not tactical)
Surefire G2 next to mags in brief case.

I just hate carrying all sorts of s around. So I dump whats in my pockets whenver I get where I'm going. The only thing that I keep is my pistola and my cuchillo (knife for non-illegals)

One of our younger deputies carries one of everything that they sell in the Galls catalog.
I no longer worry about him being shot,
I worry about him falling into a pool!
