Not a typo. Looks like new product being unveiled at SHOT.

Supposed to work with an HK416, amongst others.

OK, that's cool.

What is it?

Says 7.62x51 on it, can't be for the HK416 unless they have various models.

AR10 maybe? That would be cool. M14, even better :)

Looks like some kind of magazine loader next to it in one photo, that would be cool also. Or is that the cover like comes with the PMAGs. Yeah, looks more like the cover.

I don't even know why the hell HK gave it a straighter mag well. Makes no sense.

From Arfcom

PMAGs and Lancer L5s both have a rib running around the circumference of the magazine that interfaces precisely with the mag well on an in-spec AR lower. This prevents any chance of the magazine ever deep seating (instead of simply leaving it up to a tiny little shelf that interfaces with the mag catch. Some nimrod at H&K decided that they should change the profile of the magwell so it can be more comfortably used as a VFG. Of course, if a KaBOOM happens while you are doing this you will still use a pinky.
Magpul and Lancer both decided that most of thier users probably had better taste than that which is associated with using any H&K products other than the MP5.

Magpul should make some nice AK mags. There is a serious niche right now for quality US made AK mags, and Magpul could totally benefit from filling it.

From the catch on the mag, I'd say it's probably for an AR10 derivative.

I would assume that that one picture shows us all we need to know to ascertain what it feeds into.

On a different website--I think ARFCOM--the 7.62x51 was an SR25-type, and there was a pic of the new Larue Tactical .308 semi-auto with that mag in the magwell.

What about the polymer Tapcos for AKs? I hear good things about them.

As far as the HK416 magwell, if I was issued one I'd just dremel the hell out of it and push some of that love back HK's way.

What good things? They mostly keep working after you break a feedlip off? The Tapco mags cost more than steel and almost as much as Bulgarian waffle pattern mags, but are nearly as durable. BSW

A buddy of mine has had good results with the half dozen or so he bought so far, clocking a decent round count through them if I'm not mistaken. Of course, that's a small sample size -- I had not heard about them breaking feedlips.

I think there is two convos going on here:

To OP's Topic, as posted the EMAG is a 5.56 magazine.
To discussion, the pictures of the 7.62 mag are another product (a PMAG for the 308 platform).

In which case, what the heck is an E-Mag?

Schuey2002's post has a graphic on it -- an EMag is (apparently -- haven't seen them myself yet) just a PMag with slick sides to made it more STANAG compliant and better suited to rifles that use AR-type magazines but don't have the same mag well geometry as the AR.

I'm pretty sure the E stands for 'European', as it will work with more European guns.
Not sure if the 7.62x51 mag is an emag or a pmag or something else.

From discussion over on Warrior Talk and the AK forums, it appears the TAPCO mags are very reliable and quite strong, but are fairly brittle and will easily break off a feedlip if it dropped on concrete feed-lips-down. I have no firsthand experience with them though, so take it as hearsay.
