So I'm down on the Coastal Bend of Texas and I've run myself out of CCI #11's. I haven't found a gun shop anywhere around here that can even spell Black Powder let alone supply me with anything I need so....

I'm gonna have to mail order caps which I've never done before. I know I'm going to get dinged on haz-mat fees but I don't have a lot of choice. I need some recommendations for who has the best service etc. for mail ordering percussion caps.

Thanks,

Joe

1. Powder Valley is a large supplier that ships up to 48 pounds of powder and primers for one Hazmat fee. They currently only list Remington #10's in stock for $4.45 under the heading primers, and have all of the CCI caps in stock.

WE CAN COMBINE UP TO 48 LBS. OF POWDER AND PRIMERS UNDER ONE HAZMAT TO SAVE YOU MONEY.

2. Gamaliel has the Remington #11's in stock but not the #10's, and also has RWS and CCI in stock.

3. R&R Arms has both #10 & #11 Remington caps available but they're also the most expensive of the three:

Here's the cheapest you are gonna find anywhere BUT(!) they are the GREEN LABEL older Remington # 10 or 11 caps with the gold foil seal inside the cap. They work fine and may be old stock but so far no problems with the 5K I am using. Their photo shows the newer black label cap tin but what I got were the greens.

When I asked a similar question regarding regular primers I received a lot of advice to go to powdervalley.

Another vote for Powder Valley. Go in with some friends to amortize the hazmat and shipping fees over a larger order. They accidentally shorted me 1000 caps on a medium-sized order. I e-mailed them and they shipped out the caps the next day, no questions asked.

THere are Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World store locations in Harlingen, San Antonio, and two in the Houston area (Pearland and Katy). The Bass Pro stores I've been to have always reliably stocked basic BP inventory (caps, balls, BP sub powder, etc.). Depending on where you are, might be worth a trip to one of those stores.

Basically we're about 50 miles North of Corpus and I've got to go in to the city next week for tires on my bike so I'll see if there's a Bass Pro. I have had zero luck with the gun shops in the area.

Worst case I'll order through Powder Valley.

If you don't see them on display, be sure to ask, as I know with B/p they keep it in special storage area and only get it out if you ask, and sometimes they're just slow about restocking, but will look if asked.

Dont most Wal Marts sell Caps in the sporting goods section we get them there when the local fun shops are out 4.99 fir alittle tin

Powder Valley is probably your best bet if you've got friends that reload. That way you could split up the cost of the hazmat shipping as joe4702 mentioned. I recon that would be the cheapest way to get caps if you and your buddies all stock up on primers, powder, and bullets. I'm actually looking for a handloader to do that with so the shipping wouldn't be too much for either for us. Whenever I order from them I always get 1000 Remington caps, I sure wish they sold .22s too. I'd order a bunch if they did!
