Stuck up here (rural Missouri) and got Dixie on my
I was in Academy yesterday morning and they had no ARs out, but I assumed this was because they had sold them all.

Then, I heard on Tom Gresham yesterday that Dick's is no longer selling ARs after Sandy Hook. He also said that Academy is selling them but will not have them on display. Can anyone confirm this (i.e. provide links that confirm this)?

I will definitely be contacting Academy and Dick's to object strongly to this practice if Gresham's statements are accurate (and they usually are).

Yes, according to the news Dicks isn't selling any more ARs for philosophical reasons.

Academy is just sold out. I bought some ammo there Saturday and they said they hadn't raised any prices and just about everything else was gone.

Our local Academy is OUT of them. I asked a saleman I'm familiar with a few days after the Newtown massacre and he said "yup. They're all gone, sold out. It's driving us crazy," meaning that people kept asking and he couldn't help them. he doesn't even know when they'll get replacements.

Wow. Here in Austin, the Academy ammo is wiped out. One or two boxes of high end hunting .223, but that is it.

Heck, even the .22 is sold out.

You can bet Dicks is covering their legal rear end. I understand Lanza's rifle came from a Dicks and the lawsuits shall certainly follow. I would bet most big box stores who have relatively deep pockets would do the same per their insurance carriers legal team directives.

Wouldn't you?

I stopped into a local gun store I don't typically go to the other day. It is small and caters mostly to the older hunting crowd.

Anyway, first thig I see is an AR-22 on the counter, and two or three AR models on the rack.

They had a decent amount of 7.62x39, but no 5.56. They had just gotten in some Remigton golden .22 bulk packs, but had t priced them out yet. I considered waiting and picking up a box, but grabbed some 9mm instead. They didn't have much, but more than any of the big box stores.

My local Walmart has never had ARs in the racks, but were cleaned out of 5.56, 9mm, 7.62x39 and 12 gauge 00 buck. The only .22 they had was the over priced Swamp People guy stuff.

I haven't been anywhere else, but its all the same from what I hear. 5.56 is rare as hens teeth anymore, so I don't feel too bad about slightly overpaying for some PMC.

I am not sure if Cabelas is considered a major sporting store but I will tell you that even their gun library was void of any AR....

All of the AR's in the Scarborough Maine Cabelas were pre-ban colts that were priced around 4 - 5 thousand if I remember. I would also go gaze at them but never considered them enough in my price range to look too close at the price.

As a side note... they had plenty of steel .223 (limited 10 boxes per customer), plenty of powder, primers and bullets but no brass for either .223 or .308

Academy is sold out. 22 LR , 223 and 9mm went bye-bye. Last visit though they just stocked 45 ACP at their regular prices. So I bought some has I do have a gun that shoots such.
