Hey, this is my first thread! Whoo!

So my father-in-law gave me a Mak-90 that he has had locked away for 15 years or so, and it came with the original thumbhole stock on it that looks like a canoe oar with a bullet hole, but the guy who owned it previously cut it off to make it a really ugly pistol grip. Also, it has an angled receiver.

I'd like to get a normal pistol grip and side folding stock for it.
What are my options?
Will this one work?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I could be wrong (not the first or last time) but if you have an angled receiver (angled in the rear area where the stock fits?) Then no I don't think any normal AK buttstock will fit. I'm not sure what your options are, maybe another person more qualified in the world of ban era AKs can help though. Its a cool rile though congrats, too bad bubba got to it before you did.

EDIT: A quick google search for "MAK-90 stock" lead me to this site where they have a stock fora mak-90:

So looks like there are options that don't involve a dremmel.

I'm a pretty handy little fellow, so if their are options to get normal AK-47 parts onto my MAK-90, I'll use a little elbow grease.

IDEAS?!?

You don't need to be all that handy to make ak stocks fit. The butt stock will fit the receiver on a Mak but will leave a gap where the receiver shape is different. I used a Tapco butt stock and pistol grip. I used some aluminum shaped to fit the gaps and JB weld to glue it to the stock. The pistol grip fits like normal. You will still need to deal with the rest of the 922 issues, but the fcg and forend will take care of that.

These are the only pictures I have of this setup but if you look closely....

Ironwood designs makes wooden buttstocks for the slant cut mak 90:

I have not used any of his products, but have heard good things about them. You will need to finish the wood yourself, and add a buttplate, etc, but I think this would be your best bet.

To make it "legal" you will probably need to replace some other parts to comply with our stupid foreign parts rules- the trigger group, and PG should do it, if there is no muzzle device. I would add a tapco G2 trigger set, I think mak 90s take the double hook one.

Thanks Jagguy. Great answer. I feel safe enough to buy the tapco stock now. Does the part that connects your gun look the same as the link i posted? All square? Mine MAK has the single tang with the round hole. Is that the way yours is? And did you need to get a new screw for your grip? Thanks for your help! Excellent.

Nice looking rifle, by the way.

Z, The Tapco stock is squared off for a Euro style ak receiver, same as the stock you posted. It fits and screws onto the Mak slanted receiver fine except for the gap issue.

The Mak screw wasn't long enough so I re threaded the nut and got a bolt to fit at the hardware store. Easy stuff.

Z, since yours is a MILLED receiver then all info is incorrect. Mine is a stamped receiver and will be different than yours. I never considered yours being milled, as all the Maks I have seen have been stamped.
Sorry...............

Suck.
I guess I'll just buy the stock anyway and see if i can make it work. Thanks a lot for the help.
