I picked up a Chinese Model 59 Mak today at a local gun show. I notice when I rack the slide and place the safety on, the hammer drops forward! Is this normal? If I had a round chambered, would this cause the gun to discharge? I don't have a manual so maybe I doing something wrong. I had planned to carry with one in the chamber in SA mode with the safety on. Is this possible?

Thanks In Advance!

That's normal, it's a decocker. The round won't go off from decocking. You can't carry it cocked and locked because the hammer has to be forward for the safety to be on. Mark

the decocker has a physical ridge that blocks the hammer from reaching the pin, and is quite safe. you should have it checked out by a competent gunsmith before you use it for CC BTW, but it is a very safe weapon to use.

just make sure that you keep the firing pin and channel clean and grease free...you should do the makarov shake from time to time and hear the pin move!!!

No need to carry a Makarov with the hammer back anyway. I carry mine with a round chambered and the safety off. All you have to do is pull the trigger in double action.
A Mak is the safest and simplest semi auto ever made in my opinion.

Thanks for the response .... I feel so much better now!

Any recommendations for a good IWB holster?
