I was just thinking how super ridiculous people are that think making guns illegal will stop crime. As far as I know, most people that commit crimes with firearms do so with an illegal firearm or aren't legally allowed to posses one, and those people are called criminals. Making a law to stop it won't work, becuase guess what..... A CRIMINAL IS SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T OBEY LAWS.
I think it's that simple but I must be missing something.

The simple fact is that banning a weapon used to commit crimes/violence will not stop crimes/violence itself. At best people will just find different tools to use to commit crimes/violence.

Yep, I have made that argument many times. I highly doubt any of this will come as a big surprise to anyone on these boards either, we all feel this way.

However, gun grabbers will proclaim that laws restricting the purchase of guns will simply make guns unavailable to criminals. They believe that, even though they would by definition be willing to break the law to get a firearm, gun control will prevent them from having the opportunity to take such action.

They sincerely underestimate the resourcefulness of a desperate man.

Making something illegal that a large percentage (not necessarily a majority but large enough to cause trouble) of a population thinks is not up to the government to regulate causes more trouble than it is worth. We tried that once in this country, it was called the 18th and then 21st ammendment. Gun control actually causes crime. It has just created something else for enterprising crminals to traffic. There will always be a criminal element when large groups of people live in a confined area. The commom citizens should have the right to defend themselves against those that wish to break down their great society. Increase the penalties for using firearms in crimes. Make it a 25-to life sentence for armed robbery, death penalty for sex crimes with a firearm. Toughen those laws not the laws that disallow Joe Average to keep a 38 in his nightstand drawer.

Some people want to ascribe a human trait to an inanimate object (guns are evil or guns are good). Some others also want to blame that object for an action in which it was used (a crime, a war, etc.).

If we agree that doing that is okay, then I'm going to start a campaign against writing instruments for confusing people, and blaming my pens for misspelling words.

Motor vehicle crashes kill more people annually than guns. You don't see them trying to ban cars do you?
Sure, safer cars. Cars with seatbelts and air bags and antilock brakes and traction control. Cars with adaptive suspensions and all wheel drive. Still people die every day in car crashes. Nobody asks for a car ban.

Guns get safer. More access control methods. Frame safeties. Keyed child locks. Distributing a lock/case with every gun. It's never good enough, people still want to ban them.

Must be a psychological thing. A gun is a killing tool, a car is a transportation tool.

Maybe they should ban knives? Baseball bats? Sharpened sticks with nails in them?

"Aw next thing youll say is illegal aliens shouldnt have CCWs.
BIGOTS!!!!"

LOL, way too funny.

While they are outlawing guns why don't they just outlaw criminals. It will be just as effective.

I've mentioned this before; I was between neutral and anti-gun before the Rodney King riots. I never owned a gun nor had shot one. I kind of thought people who were into guns were just a little paranoid. But when I saw the LAPD turn around 6 patrol cars in a row and leave defenseless civilians to fend for themselves I instantly became pro-gun. I could not believe the government/police were abandoning U.S. citizens who pay taxes for police protection. If there is ever trouble at my house I am going to count on myself.

I think it's that simple but I must be missing something.

It really is that simple. The only thing your missing is this: the entire point of leftist extremist so-called "gun control" has nothing to do with crime and everything to do with disarming law-abiding American citizens.

IF to forbid guns, then the ordinary people will be killed by illegal guns (which is the case mostly anyway), so what? what's the difference? We had an idea here - give out a law that forbids having temperature below -10 Celsius.
