why cant i have cool neighbors like that:D

"say bob you got a stump puller? sure let me mix up a batch:evil: "

Charges will probally be dropped or plead to some minor ones.

THis is typical practice for the Feds, raid the place, take the guns and then OOPS can't charge you......
When that happened to a dealer I know here in AZ it took quite awhile for the return of the firearms, and some were "lost"

You're joking, right Skunky?

"Busting a cap" is urban slang for shooting someone.

A "blasting cap" is a small, relatively low-powered explosive that's used to set off other, larger explosives. By low powered, I mean that a typical one would, say, only take off your fingers if it went off in your hand. There are different types of blasting caps used for different types of explosives, mind you, as some explosives require more powerful "high density" caps and others need only less powerful "low density" caps. (Not just typical explosives, but things like shock tube, detonating cord (or primer cord as they call it in hollywood), etc.)

Heavens to betsy how dare this man violate our byzantine gun and explosive laws. I think we should have the homes of every person suspected of having an arsenal that may/or may not be illegal raided and all firearms seized prior to public humilation and incarceration.

So why do y'all think the charges will be dropped? Dropped or not, there is no way in hell they will be returning any form of contrand back to the guy. He definitely won't get his machine guns, homemade guns, or explosives materials.

Yeah, I'm a little puzzled too. Did all the other 'explosives' turn out to be props as well? I'm almost certain he made the mistake of owning both full auto parts and the weapon they go in to, but what's this 'one count of unlawfully making a firearm?' I was under the impression you could make anything you wanted so long as you did not sell it. Maybe since having full auto parts + weapon they fit into = constructive possession, this was the 'making' he's been charged with... Byzantine is right...

I know this is many years old, But I would like to set the record straight. I was his nextdoor neighbor while this all took place. Steve Lasky was a retired Navy Seal as well as a demolition expert. He was also a civil war, ww2 re-enactor which is what most of his "arsenal" consisted of. He was found guilty on a couple of charges "since the gov used so many resources". 98% of his arsenal was either replicas or de-miled. He spent a couple of years in the federal prison. After he was released, He had a hard time finding a job. This man loved being in the military and wanted to make a living out of it, even after retiring. His VA benefits were later revoked. 3 days ago, He was evicted from his house, The same house that all of this took place in. He didn't have any family and no where to go. The cops called him to meet them in the road since he had dogs in his fenced in yard. Steve had been depressed due to no job and not having any lights or electricity in his house as the city cut his lights and water off over 2 months ago. The city didn't want him in the town because of his run in with the feds. Steve thought the town was being silly because they blew his crimes WAY out of proportion to make it look good in the media. Long story short, Steve said ok, He will meet them in the road. He was on the phone with dispatch as the cop came to remove him from his property. As the cop approached, Steve told dispatch that his house was wired to blow. He was joking because of how the town treated him, But they didn't know that. As the officer approached, Steve took a 12 gauge shotgun, Put it to his chest and pulled the trigger. The officer then shot and killed his dogs as they wanted to do that when he was arrested for his "arsenal". They left his body sitting in the chair in the road where he took his own life for a few hours. Kids and other people were coming around to see his dead body. They never covered him or shielded his body from public view.

The idiocy of reporters. They don't even know what an arsenal is. It is nothing more than a place to work on arms or to store them. It's not the arms themselves. A room or shop designed to store or work on arms is an arsenal even when it is completely devoid of arms. It's a workshop or store FOR weapons and /or ammo, not a workshop or store OF weapons and /or ammo. I'm an FFL and I often have arms belonging to other people in my arsenal. My arsenal is not my arms, only the place I keep mine and other people's as well. I have a collection of arms. I have a bunch of arms. I have several arms. I have a certain number of arms. I keep them in my arsenal.

Your gun safe is an arsenal. My gun safe is an arsenal.

Don't let the word "arsenal" go the route that the phrase "assault weapon" has gone.

Tragic story, but Lasky did break the law and faced consequences for it. Apparently, he made terroristic threats to the cops before he died as well. You don't "joke" to 911 that your house is wired to blow. Sorry, but that isn't a joke.

Obviously, there is a good lesson here. Don't commit felonies or you risk potentially ruining your life.

The idiocy of reporters. They don't even know what an arsenal is.

LOL, CC, one of the definitions of arsenal is "a collection of weapons." It isn't just a place to work on them.

The reporters got it right.

Look at the origins of the word. Just because some dictionaries have bastardized the word - probably due the rampant misuse of it over time - doesn't make it right.

Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language (1755) and my 1993 copy of Webster's Universal Dictionary and Thesaurus show the definition of 'arsenal' being as I have shown.

A lot of what is wrong with the world these days is the misconstrual of anything and everything that will advance an agenda. Muddle the language enough and you can make the Constitution say anything you wish it to say.

An arsenal is a military facility where weapons and/or ammunition are manufactured. An armory is where they are stored. None of which has anything to do with a civilian collection.

Both Google and in particular websters say that both terms mean a place where weapons are made as well as where they are stored. Arsenal has the additional definition of being a collection of weapons.

For the love of everything dear and holy, you guys are really missing the way more important issue at hand!

Take your word vs. word debate to another thead where it can rage for 8 pages and be closed down, and leave this thread alone!

I'm unable to find anything in the news by the name given by the new poster above.
Does anyone have any links?

Thanks CC.
I was actually looking for something referring to his suicide. But thank you for the updated link, the OP link no longer works.

Likely a real nice guy just not real quick on the uptake. My wife had a former Marine on her board of directors who was an explosives expert. I liked this guy. He and his dad owned an explosives business. You ever think that BATFE is serious about gun transfers and checking books, even Class III? They take serious to a whole new level if you buy and sell stuff like C4 or any other explosives. Long gone are the days of going to the general store and buying a case of dynamite. :)

I wish this poor guy the best of luck but he is in deep crap. Unregistered automatic weapon and toss in explosives?

Not to be that guy but do you have any other sources to substantiate any of this? No offense, but a drive by, first time posting isn't particularly credible as a source.
