How does a Mom and Pop store aquire firearms and ammunition for resale?

I understand how product for resale is aquired by larger companies, I have 15 years invested in many levels of retail, both large and small organizations, but I have no idea about this niche in retailing.

Do Manufacturing companies have field reps that visit the stores within a region to write orders, market new products, help with satisfaction issues, expedite shipments or returns, et cetera?

Any one with first hand experience as a field rep for a Manufacturer in this field? I have a great deal of interest.

Thanks.

I think most of them buy from a distributor. I know the pawn shop that I use for FFL transfers does. They will get me anything their distributor has for 10% over cost + shipping. Brownell's and Midway USA both offer dealer discounts that are sometimes significant.

Some companies sell direct, requiring the retailer to buy specific items and keep certain amounts of volume. You may find some very good deals from distributors when manufacturers go direct, as the distributor will want to unload all that product.
