Marine sniper credited with longest confirmed kill in Iraq

Woodcraft including stalking and camouflage may be learned outside of school. I recall a story where one Confederate saw a (Federal) Indian hide behind a rock. The Confederate waited for the Indian to appear so he could shoot him. He waited patiently like our modern sniper would do today. Then he sees this barrel pointing at him at point blank range. It's the same Indian. One of our member's (Ojibweindian) daughter, while only 10 years old, came within 10 feet of a rabbit once. Patience and stalking skills.

So, what good are sniping schools? Plenty. They ensure that the sniper is part of a team and meets minimal standards of proficiency to ensure that his function as a team member is on par.
