hey guys, picked up marlin in 357 the other day and looking in to getting scope for it. This is my first lever/357 carbine and need suggestions on what scope/mount combo to get. I want something dissent for 150 yard shooting under $200 for scope/mount/rings if possible.
On a side note, can this rifle take consistent diet of double tap 180gr. ammo?
Thanks

I don't have the Marlin but I do have a Winchester 94AE Trapper in 357. I used a Bushnell Banner 1.5 - 4.5 for the scope and Millet turn-in rings and bases. It works well for 100 yard practical accuracy and the Banner scope in that power range is a good size for a carbine length rifle.

The scope doesn't look out of place and the Millet rings have a nice leaf and vine motif.

When I had mine I used the QD Leupold rings with a 1-4x Leupold scope. The one without the objective bell? I thought it looked positively elegant on that classic carbine, and it made it easier for me to hit was I was shooting at!

The Bushnell Banner is a good value choice, as mentioned. I also like, and currently have, a Weaver K2.5 is on my 1894 44 and a V3 on the 1895G. Short scopes with a straight tube mounted low feel best on the levers to me.

Slap a receiver mounted peep sight on that little thing and you'll have a great woods gun.

I have a peep sight from One Ragged Hole on mine. It mounts in place of the standard leaf on the barrel (Takes about 5 minutes. No drilling, etc) and works very well indeed. My .44 mag 1894 wears a Simmons 4 power and is accurate out to 150 yards or so (maybe farther, I never tried). The Marlin lever actions are more accurate than some would have you think.

This dandy coastal blacktail buck fell to one shot from my Marlin 44MAG carbine. The scope was purchased through a trade at local Gun Show. It's an older Weaver K-4. Magnification was plenty but the gasket seals were bad and it fogged with the slightest change in humidity and barometric pressure. Shortly after this hunt, I bought a Bushnell Sportsman 4X for about $35.00 (new) from cheaperthandirt.com. This scope is brighter and has better clarity. I've had zero problems with it.

The Weaver K-4 was sold to a Collector (I truthfully disclosed the defect) for $20.00. We were both very happy with this amount.

Good hunting to you.
