Just curious. I have terrible eyes and was wanting to mess around with a lever action rifle with a scout scope on it. I have plenty of .357 revolvers so I can share the ammo, and I can shoot the rifle at indoor ranges where they allow anything pistol caliber.

Does anyone make a scout scope and a rear peep sight for the Marlin 1894? And did Marlin ever make this rifle in .357 and stainless steel?

XS (I think) makes a rail mount for the 1894 that uses the rear drill and tap plus the groove from the dovetail. I think they also still make a ghost ring rear sight. Wild West guns used to make a rear ghost ring, too. If you check Midway USA, they should have some parts listed for the 1894 that cover what you asked for.

I've mounted a scope on mine but I didn't like the setup because it was too high. I went back to irons.

Scoped 357 rifle

Saw one at a gunshop that had a Millett red dot on it. It wasn't too tall and looked like it would be very handy.

scope and sights

Hey 357,
I just bought and mounted the following on my 336A which I think is the same mounts as the 1894. One set front and rear peep sights from skinnersights.com, an xs scope rail and a leupold scout scope. XS also makes peep/ghost ring sets but they cost about twice as much as the skinner sights. This complete set up should run about $400 give or take if you find a sale.
Have fun.

I purchased a Marlin 1894c in Dec. on Auction Arms. Good transaction all the way. I wound up with an as new, made 79. I knew that the open sights would not work for my eyes and bought a red dot. It's a Bushnell Trophy. It's small so it doesn't interfere with handling, has 4 interchangeable reticules, eleven light intensity setting and rings. I believe the gun shop mounted it on a Weaver mount. It's easy to use, it does not eat batteries and the batteries are cheap. I'm happy with this set up, and non-gunners who have used it have been very accurate with it right from the start. A bit over $100, IIRC.

I have an 1894c with the scout rail on it. I also have the XS peep sights installed and a Wild West Guns Happy Trigger (big improvement over factory trigger). Great little gun. Right now I have a red dot mounted on the rail but I haven't decided on the final configuration. I had to do a little work on the scout rail with my dremel to get it fit flush.

Marlin made a special addition 1894 in stainless a couple of years ago. I think only 350 or so were made in each of the 357, 41, 44, and 45 cals. Someone had one up for sale recently on the forsale forum.

My 1894C in .357 wears a Burris scout scope on an XS Sight Systems scout rail. It came together easily. However, I already had the Burris scope. If you're trying to scope your Marlin on the cheap, a red dot in conventional rings would be less expensive.

That said, avoid the very low priced red dots. They often have horrendous parallax problems. I have a Millett red dot on another rifle, and have had good success with that one.

I mounted a weaver base($6 fits 336 marlin also)+ a cheap Tasco 4x32... what a blast! my old eyes suck so tried a cheap scope first. will be putting a better scope on real soon. .357 cartridge done justice with this marlin 18" levergun. accurate to 100yds

357wheelgunner, I don't have a pic of the .357 1894C yet. Here's a pic that will give you an idea of what the package looks like, though. The top rifle is an 1894S in .44 mag. I replaced that gun with the 1894C. FYI, the lower rifle is a Marlin 336RC in .30-30 with a Leupold scope mounted. Both pics should give you an idea of what a lever scout looks like.

Yes, I have a 3-9x32 Tasco on my Marlin 1894C, but I'm not too crazy about it. I'm looking around for a 2-7x40 scope. My eyesight isn't the best, but I rarely move the scope beyond 3X, and I think a larger aperature would be a bigger help.
