Well i just added a new gun to the stable a 1894s marlin limited in .45colt. It seems to be in great shape and it is very handy. It even came with the box which had the hammer spur but no manuals. I can't find much on these guns exept it was a limited run from TALO and it was made in 1997. I would really like to know what it is worth ( no its not going ANYWHERE:D) I fired it a little today i still have to get some brass and decide on some bullets to use for it. I will have to pick up some powder too i have some longshot that will work but it will work but it will be a very stout load so don't really want to use that for plinking

The only thing i don't like about it is the other owner took off the stock sights and put on XS sights. It appears he took the rear sight and cut the front and the back off and filed it down and then punched it back in the dove tail. I will probably put on some stock sights if i can find any for now, maybe a lyman 2 tang sight or some skinner sights. Does anyone have a lyman 2 tang sight they say it can be mounted without damaging the serial number. Basically i don't want to drill any holes in the gun.

Not sure on that particular model but for the rear sight spot? It's a dovetail blank that can be purchased. Give marlinowners.com a quick try for info. Congrats on the rifle.

you will need http://www.midwayusa.com/product/51...-45-70-government-444-1894ss-1894-1894c-1894p

and http://www.midwayusa.com/product/76...models-1894ss-39a-922-magnum-model-9-model-45 to get a complete rear sight. you will need a different front sight as well. It will either be a dovetail http://www.midwayusa.com/product/68...-magnum-44-remington-magnum-45-colt-long-colt
or a ramp that screws into the barrel. Depending on what you have for the front sight I might be willing to work a trade for your xs sights. I have a factory rear in a baggie, a skinner lo-pro on the rifle right now, and a williams green fiber front dovetail.

That is an absolute gem! Great find.

Those XS sights are VERY handy. Far better than the nasty buckhorn Marlin foisted on its customers.

that's a great find! i recently picked up an older JM stamped .45-70 guide gun that has the original sights. i'm looking to switch to peep sights. most seem to really like the xs set-up, so you might want to do some shooting with them before swapping them out. if, on the other hand, you just want the originals for original sake, then by all means...

I'm jealous as hell. I HAD a winchester 94 trails end 45 colt and traded it several years ago. I traded it and a 44 mag vaquero on a bow of all things. Can you say Bafoon?

I love those sights. You buy different sizes apatures if that one is too big for your liking. I have had a set on my 1894 for about 15 years with zero issues.

sorry guys my computers been down
I may give the xs sights a try for a while before I get another set.

So does anyone know what it might be worth. i'd like to know if I got a good deal or not.

You could Google it, but I'm guessing around 100 bucks.

edit: oh, you mean the whole rig? assuming it is a JM gun and not a remington gun, $750-800 maybe? it varies a lot by region. And 45lc might be a plus or a minus on the sale. 44mag is more popular and common. I personally wouldn't give more than 600-650 for it, but I have a few 1894's and am kinda broke And I don't like 45lv in an 1894. I get too much blowback around the bolt with light loads. You might find somebody willing to pay a cool 1K if you put it up on gunbroker. weird things can happen on GB.

yup it's a jm stamp it's not a remlin lol. I figured I payed what it was worth maybe a little more but I got it and ill have some fun with it. I got it for just under 800 by the time I got through the transfer.

it may not have been a bargain, but it's not out of line. remember, you have (new priced) 80 bucks worth of sights added on, and 20 in sling and swivels. And there is probably $200 in cost variable depending on region. (look on armslist. no 45lc, but the 44mags run from 500-750) Add on your extras and you did fine.
